I Fixed the Noise issue with the smart effector thanks to this:

I added a B1 to the M558 in the config.g. This turns off the heaters while probing. Now I can run the bed leveling as part of the print! I'm also playing around with the Z trigger. A -0.3 gets me a layer firmly attached to the bed. I'll measure when its done to see hoe close it is to the specified 0.2mm.

I also fixed the extruder slipping by turning up the current for the stepper.

I think I have found the answer. I added these 2 lines in the start g-code and it seems that Z is adapting to the height map. I need to do testing / tuning in the coming days, but happy so far.

@rjenkinsgb I had an extruder motor cable failure several years ago when I used a too small bend radius in a drag chain. It would cause the extruder to cut out momentarily at specific XY locations in the prints. It took a while to figure out what was happening. The wires had fractured inside their own insulation, the result of being bent too many times.

@oliof As you said there is a peak at very low frequencies, don´t know if enough high as to be a problem but there it is. Also I tested with and without a reinforcement in the X axis (I added a L shaped aluminum of 10x20mm all the wide axis lenght) and the peak around 40hz is now smaller but the VFA is more notorious in the printing, I will still try to dig some improvements at low speeds.

@ravs99 most likely the move you have requested cannot be executed at the requested feed rate without exceeding the 300mm/min maximum extrusion speed that you specified in the M203 command in config.g. So that 300mm/min is the limiting factor.

If you want to move them manually you would need to split them into two separate axis with M584 and then control them that way with G1 commands. You can recombine afterwards.

Can you please send M122 and M98 P"config.g" and post the results?

What command exactly are you using to tune?

What is the resulting tuning values it produces?

Are you using M500 to save the results?

@oliof Yes - I should have elaborated that the issues we've run into are between IS and PA. With IS enabled, we've had to slow down acceleration to achieve good PA results..

@littlehobbyshop I can confirm that the volumetric extrusion on/off flag is saved when a macro is called and restored when it completes. However, the filament diameters are not saved and restored.

If you always use volumetric extrusion, you can add a M200 command to config.g.

You should include a M200 command in your slicer start GCode if the print is sliced using volumetric extrusion.

If you are sure about the numbers that you added (thickness of the glass) you can just modify the "System > config-override.g" file in the M665 line at the H parameter (subtracting the mm you added).
If this will go fine you can change the H parameter also in the config.g

In general for see the height of the printer:
1- power on the printer
2- home the printer
3- lower the head till the glass
4- when you are at the zero send in console G92 Z0 (to define the new zero level)
5- home the printer and read the new height value in the duet dashboard (Status > Z position) after the endstop are triggered. Keep in mind that the home position is lowered of 5mm (you can find your value in the homedelta.g , so you have to add also those mm to the height value you read in the Status > Z position.
6- write this new height in the config-override.g (and config.g)

If you dont have changed also the nozzle height modifying the head of the printer , should be enough adjust the height as above.

To close this thread out, I am now down to an estimated 14 hrs of print time from an initial 39 hours for the particular model at hand. Unfortunately, I changed so many things over the time that I am not able to narrow down exactly where the improvements came from.

Some of the settings that I changed:
I went from 0.15 to 0.2 mm layer height. I had set
I had top and bottom layers set to 4 ... I reduced it to 2
I changed 'gradual infill' to 1, I think it was 2 before.
I reduced the infill percentage from 99 to 40 (most of the infill is on the first 8 layers so this didn't make a lot of difference)
I played with the various print speeds
No individual change made a significant difference, it was more a gradual thing

BTW, I sliced the same model for 3 different printers with three separate sets of Cura settings, some of which had not changed for a long time. Print time was pretty much consistent throughout so it wasn't a screw up in setting up the latest Cura parameters.

I wish I could report a clear fault in my setup but I was unable to find one. I guess that is good in one sense and bad in another ....

The Bed.g file actually defines that you are doing a four point bed calibration. It is the coordinates of your four adjustment screws and not defining that you have steppers at those screws from my understanding.

The firmware supports Manual Bed Leveling using the Bed Leveling Assistant or Auto Bed Leveling when you have multiple Z steppers. The file bed.g is needed in either case but what the firmware does with that file is based on having or not having multiple Z steppers.

Please expand on the bed leveling built into the firmware.

The problem, as I understand it, with doing it as is done in your macro, is that the adjustment done at each point can affect the previous adjustments. The Bed Leveling Assistant computes how much adjustment must be done for each point so that there is no interaction. But, as you observed, it can be tricky adjusting the screws. I have found that with a bit of practice you get the hang of adjusting the screws and it becomes quick and easy.

If your macro works for you that is all that matters.

@hareshprajapati yes it should work in RRF 3.4.0.

It varies depending on how thick the plate is. The thicker it is the longer it takes to cool down between cycles. On my 300x300x6mm plate and 600w 120v heater it takes about 15 minutes to tune to 75c.

And i just this minute got it to finally work

I Think i had a combination of issues, while messing about with M203 I had at some point set the max speed of the Z axis to 1800.00 instead of 180.00 and I hadn't noticed, that in conjunction with M566 being too set too high compounded the problem.

i have managed to get it working with the following

M203 Z180.00 ; set maximum speeds (mm/min)
M566 Z10 ; set maximum instantaneous speed changes (mm/min)
M350 Z32 ; configure microstepping
M92 Z 6400 ; set steps per mm
M201 Z20 ; set accelerations (mm/s^2)
M906 Z2000 ; set motor currents (mA)
