@developeralgo222 can you confirm that the replacement boards have solved the problem?

I have the two 3HC and one 6XD boards you returned set up on the bench and connected them together using two Kenable CAN cables. Both 3HC boards had the termination jumpers installed when they arrived, so I removed the jumpers on the middle board. They are all syncing reliably. I will look at the CAN signals on an oscilloscope later to check that the signal levels are correct.

Im now testing an LDO NEMA 17 motor OverTheMoon LDO-42STH25-1004AC which is a High Temp High Speed pancake motor.

And I think I found the real root cause, aside from not-ideal stepper choices, I was using a Jerk speed of 200 mm/min, which is a value I found online as a recommended "extreme" setting. The default value is 40mm/min. When I dropped this down to 100mm/min and combined with the new light and fast stepper I can now achieve a pretty impressive 400ma current on the Stepper driving the Nimble (and still at high speeds).

@Aitor the IO_IN inputs of the Duet already include a pullup resistor.

@bug2k22 if you have a decent multimeter, you can measure the resistance of the bed to work out the current draw.

I have never tested stall detection on the extruder but would if I used a Bowden Extruder. I was just trying to have the printer rehome X and Y if the fan shroud or BLtouch got stuck on a part of the print that bent upwards, but never finished dialing it in.

@c310 I’d blame poor contact of the pin to crimp, or a poor crimp. I doubt the board, motor or driver are to blame. Remove the crimp from the housing and inspect where the heat has come from.

@T3P3Tony I would have already bought a Duet 3 Expansion 1XD board if it were for me. Unfortunately, it is for a research project with EU funding. Life is too short to go through the pain they cause us to validate orders from suppliers abroad.

Before asking, I saw the question was answered on the forum, but I insisted in case there was some "not recommended" but workable solution. Once this is off the table, I will bump up the VIN voltage to 48V and use one of the 6HC built-in drivers for the pellet extruder.

@Tricep-terry that's basically the way to do it. Make sure the relay is switchable with 5V. You may need to invert the pson pin depending on wiring and type of relay

Thanks again for getting back to me. I tried your solution of switching to different Q values, but the output is still the same at 24V AC. I probed the black component located next to the pins (assuming that this was the protective diode that possibly is failing) and noted that it is allowing the same current in both directions, while the other two components for the pins next to it allow current preferentially in one direction. This leads me to suspect a component failure over coding issues.

That diode should not be open in both directions so it is possible you fried it but I don't see how that happened from your description. (BTW its not the VIN fuse, if that had blown you would not have 24V). just changing the PWM frequency should not have damaged anything.

I assume you probed the diode with the board unpowered?

Just t check something try setting the Q parameter back to the old setting.

Thanks for the information. I found them. The explanation that it was at the backside of the board helped a lot.

@Jeronimo88 the endstop plugin hasn’t been updated, because now the axis letters in the dashboard change colour instead.

@Ravs99 the CAN bus drivers are highly tolerant of over voltage so the Mini5+ will be fine.

The failed component on the tool board is most likely the TMC2209 driver chip.

@dc42 We are connecting it via the expansion slot pins. M569 P9 S1 R0 T4. The E6 pin: Pin 25 and Pin 2

There may have been a word/grammar miscommunication. When I said PWM above, I was referring to the STEP signal.

We are not using any fan or heater connectors on the board currently.

Perhaps it is the amplitude of the pulses that needs to be greater? Is there a way to do this? I may be wildly not correct for doing this, but the voltage output using a multi-meter always measures 0.6v from Pin 25 to 2 when an extruder move command is sent. ~0v during idle. On the cheap pulse generator device, the output is always 6.5v when in use. (I do not have an oscilloscope).

@Kanyo it's been a long while, however the new K parameter in the M950 command used to create a fan will solve this.
