@brotherchris I had two good test prints last night and have been in touch with T3P3Tony about getting a V2 rotating assembly, so hopefully won't be long and I can test out both variations.

I'll throw you a heads-up when I'm happy with and have done a little testing myself 🙂

@dc42 Quick update:

I redesigned the housing and re-printed, paying particular attention to having the filament only in contact with the PTFE, having the PTFE securely mounted closest to the hob and passing the filament over the hob such that the idler has very little work to do. I believe RC2 fixed the "sensor error" issue and the housing update seems to have cleared the frequent spurious movement readings I was still getting.

I'm now consistently getting:

I could probably refine the design a little more. I think a full case with strain relief for the cable(s) would be a definite plus.

@Snimax With the new firmware Duet 3 Mini 5+ 3.4.0rc1 (2022-02-09) it lasted a lot longer (about 150m of filament) but then the min went down to 9%, and again shortly after that with a second test.

The polling is every 500ms, so the logs seems to be right. But it changes from 2991 to 3006. Which is a difference of 15mm instead of the defined 5mm

But no worries. I bought 2 new sensors and Hobbystore have made contact(on Friday) and will send new sensor.

M591 D0 P7 C"ystop" L7 R80:115 E8 S1

What caused problems with my setup was that I've used an endstop pin from an axis where sensorless homing was enabled. Switching to an endstop without sensorless homing solved it for me.

I am using a third party controller board with a STM32 chip structure. I don't know if that has any impact on the error that I had but this might also help you if you are using an original Duet board.

I'm glad you got it running!

That applies to the magnetic filament monitor, but I don't think it applies to the simple presence detection sensors which function as simple switches.

Thanks David, I will give M581 a try. Let's see how that will work for me and my sensor.

I fully understand the problem with the latency and the sensor but I do not understand why that is a problem here and not a problem at Z. You write in the wiki that this is a permanent limitation, that sounds to me more like: We will not do that
Than is there a pending feature request you did not refuse, did you?
It would be very nice if you guys could allow the user to decide here themself.
I'm more than willing to accept a "to late" e stepper stop if I would not need to route the cables trough all of the chains on more than one printer. That sounds to me like a better solution than having no sensor at all, which is my current work around.
