Make sure you say which filament sensor do you have. Most likely, it's your wiring. Either it's connected incorrectly, or the wiring is faulty (poorly crimped terminals). Check continuity on the wires. Post your config.g so we can see how it is set up.

But please start a new thread, do not reply to this one.

Thanks for the advice. I will try increasing the measurement length as you suggest. My sensor is mounted ~20mm above a direct drive extruder and was flexing around a lot. I added a brace which helped a lot but am still having issue. I will try increasing the measurement length as you suggest.

@dc42 disabling the sensor during the calibration worked. But I still get occasional "Extruder 0 reports sensor not working" errors during printing. Last print was 4h in which the error appeared 2 times. Could it be the wiring? Is there a way to debug this issue further, maybe some log files i can check?

I am still having this problem, but think it could be related to pressure advanced. I wasn't thinking about it before as I stopped using it. And only use the filament sensor during long prints. I can't say forsure if I have been using them together every time the issue happens or doesn't happen, but have been trying to remember to enable pressure advance more often during test prints (half way) to see how much of a difference it can make. I have just left it on and doing another test overnight. Enabled the magnetic sensor and right when it started to pull actual numbers/calibrate while enabled it stopped the print.

How does the Sensitivity work or, being measured on the magnetic sensor?

@nuroo Please look out for frame errors reported by M122.
They went away with my replaced monitor, and so did the ultra-low min-values it got before.

I will use that and see how I go. It makes sense to use the longer one. I did a print last night that had a fair bit of retraction and it only got down to a min 94% and a max of 107% over 9m of filament using the newer mm/rev.

The replacement filament monitor arrived today - thanks for the really fast and painless swap!

Just installed, gave it a quick go ...

no more "Sensor not working" messages M591 D0 reports quite usable data Duet3D rotating magnet filament monitor v2 on input 3, disabled, sensitivity 25.33mm/rev, allow 85% to 115%, check every 3.0mm, current pos 14.8, measured sensitivity 25.21mm/rev, min 90% max 110% over 1252.5mm M122reports no frame errors anymore Extruder 0: pos 14.77, ok, measured sens 25.21mm/rev min 90% max 110% over 1252.5mm, errs: frame 0 parity 0 ovrun 0 pol 1 ovdue 0

Will do some more tests in the coming days, but those are by far the best results I was ever able to get!

FWIW... I may have found the cause of my 'pausing' issue. It appears that it was caused by a short of some kind on the extruder stepper motor, on the duet side(?). I repositioned the cables around the stepper motor connectors on the duet side and so far have not experienced this issue.

I also want to add that in addition to the issue being intermittent, it was present whether the rotating sensor was enabled or disabled (so it was not a problem with the sensor or sensor config).
