The problem mysteriously solved itself.
After countless attempts it worked now.

OK, yes, the bed is on a kinematic mount that allows it to expand, and the X axis linear guide uses two bearing blocks, one of which allows the printer's frame to expand without side-loading the Y axis linear guides.

Yeah, I noticed, but I was hoping it would be able to determine the load angle when stationary as well. Might poke the various current registers and see if I can spot what I can clearly hear when applying some force to the stationary motor, but looks like no dice indeed.

@bearer the issue is the lack of flexibility is the plugin to write whitelist rules.

Maybe i missread the holiday thing, idk. Mixed up escher3d.com which sells ir probes and paneldue, they have a notice of having changed the direct sales policy.

Anyways, I would think Duet3d makes more off OEM sales than through direkt marketing and resellers. And I'm not saying you should buy a clone, most of the clones are so close in price it makes very little sense to forfeit the warranty and support. On the other hand I wouldn't have rebuilt the 2nd printer with a Duet if not for a $55 Maestro board, and that results in the RepRap Configurator having one less bug - its not all black and white.

I just wanted to put an illustration to the claims of inferior cooling due to skimping on copper weight; its clearly an issue, but with moderate loads and/or cooling it'll work just fine.

I use Atomic CF PETG when I need CF, what I'm looking for is metal infused (brass, copper, bronze, stainless) for looks.

The curve for the 17HS19-2004S looks sensible to me. Selecting that motor in the EMF calculator at https://reprapfirmware.org/ and selecting half stepping, the calculator predicts that the torque will start to drop off at 2.9kHz (low slip angle) or 4kHz (high slip angle). The figure for high slip angle can be compared to the pull-out torque curve, and it agrees reasonably well.

The curve for the 23HS30-2804S looks completely wrong to me, as if it has been measured at a constant voltage of 3.2V, not at a constant current of 2.8A with a driver supply of 24V. It doesn't show a flat area at all. The calculator predicts that loss of torque will start at 1.2kHz (low slip angle) or 1.6kHz (high slip angle). Whereas the curve suggests that torque falls right from the start of the curve at 0.5kHz.

I also looked up the 23HS22-2804S which is a shorter Nema 23 motor that I use to test Duets at maximum current. The calculator suggests that torque should start to drop off at 2.2kHz or 3.1kHz. This fits reasonable well with the curve published at https://www.omc-stepperonline.com/download/23HS22-2804S_Torque_Curve.pdf.

@dragonn I know the EMF calculator. It was probably the most visited webpage in my browser's history for quite a while while I was selecting new motors for my printer. 😁

@deckingman I think your idea is the better approach here. Also currently this is all in the just-wanna-have-it stage. I have absolutely no need for a MPCNC I would just build it to have it built.

And you are right, peripherals are (in my experience) more widely available for 12V than for 24V.

I am going to mark this question as solved with: 24V is always better for your steppers because they could run faster than with 12V. And a buck-down converter can always take 24V to 12V in case of peripherals not available at native 24V.
