Tried posting a short reply with a link and was told the post was flagged as spam by askimet - wouldn't a captcha be a better solution to both allow posting and stop spam?
-
some sites are not allowed.
-
mrcoles dot com forwardslash favicon-creator not sure why that would be disallowed, and in any case if its now allowed for whatever reason rejecting it as spam isn't a very helpful error message.

I was editing a reply today and it got marked as spam as well at first, tried again a couple seconds later and it was accepted. So maybe there's been a slight change to the plugin to make it more sensitive?
-
@bearer I'm guessing the favicon creator was for the 12864 display menus?
-
yeah, just as thought i'd add it as a refrence; seems it wouldn't take much to change it to be compatible with the display icons.

Akismet is rather opaque as to what it marked as spam and what is not, issue is I can't even white list specific users at this point. The plugin has the feature to allow users with some reputation to have their posts marked as not spam but that does not appear to be working.. We tried running with it off briefly in the past and got hammered with forum spam.

@bearer test https://mrcoles.com/favicon-creator

I had the Same issue a bit ago Tony re-submitted and it was accepted wouldn't care there wasn't even a link in there it was just edited to add a missing close bracket lol

I get that spam is a problem, and has to be dealth with; my suggestion was just if captcha could be or has been tried instead of hard rejection.
if its human spammers then I guess captcha is no good, but idk.

A captcha for new-ish users might be a possibility, but wouldn't be acceptable to users (including me) who post a lot of replies.

@bearer the issue is the lack of flexibility is the plugin to write whitelist rules.
