well brightness to zero would suffice.
On my other printer, I have octoprint all the time on but the printer&display are off. I would like to have the duet on, so the web interface is available and I can upload files etc but I would like the display notto be on all the time

There's a few PanelDue 7i cases out there. I myself am partial to this one (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2799628), but that's because I designed it heehee. It's not as thin as it could be though, so if that's what you're looking for the one you linked is probably a better fit for you.

Wish I'd seen this one first - looks great and I like the fact you have the mounting bracket included and button for the reset button. Hmmm, decision to make… throw away the already printed one and print this or stick with what I have...

PanelDue doesn't yet support the Filaments feature.

Which version Duet and PanelDue do you have? To use the ribbon cable alone you need to use a Duet with PCB revision 1.02 or later, and PanelDue version 3 or later.

A faint buzzing sound is normal, but it should not be loud enough to be troublesome. If your TFT panel buzzes loudly, ask for it to be replaced.

To use the SD card slot of a PanelDue v2 or v3 with a Duet WiFi or Duet Ethernet you just need a straight through 10 way ribbon cable.

To find older releases of PanelDueFirmware, go to https://github.com/dc42/PanelDueFirmware/releases and scroll down to the one you want.

If your normal "brightness" is low enough, the dimmed value will actually have the backlight as close of "off" as is possible while still powering it. I don't think it would be feasible to completely turn off the LCD without also powering down the entire PanelDue. (..and if only the LCD power was cut, I think it would also cut power to the electronics providing touch sensitivity, so you'd have no way to turn the LCD back on without rebooting the paneldue.)

The USB port on PanelDue is used only for uploading firmware to it, and for providing power in those few setups that need it. It is not active in normal running mode.

I added some space along the edge, and turned the case upside down (the panel due would have to invert the display orientation, the electronics are mounted the same way the whole thing is just flipped around). I don't know if there is enough room for you to add your switch, but it's in fusion and it's a place to start from.

I have not printed this case yet, but I presume it all fits.

I used "Speed" because that was suggested earlier.

It would be entirely possible, but all the screen layouts would need to be changed. The keyboard on the Console page would be difficult to fit in.

Can you give an example? I keep some files with UTF8 characters in them on my SD card, and they are still displayed correctly, with the following limitations:

PanelDueFirmware prior to 1.20RC3 only displays characters up to U+0x00FF PanelDueFirmware 1.20RC3 (which I expect to release later today) on a 5" or 7" panel displays characters up to U+0x017F PanelDueFirmware 1.20RC3 on a 4.3" panel doesn't display characters U+0x0100 to U_0x017F correctly because the font table is wrong

Here are some options:

1. Ask your your PanelDue supplier if you can buy another cable.

2. Make up a 4-way cable with a 4-pin Molex KK connector at each end, and the order of the wires reversed between the two ends. You may have some 4-pin KK connectors left over from the ones that came with your Duet.

3. If the PanelDue is version 3 and the Duet is version 1.02 or later and the distance between the two is 300mm or less, use a 10-way ribbon cable. This is the easiest cable to make, and you can also buy it ready made on eBay etc.

The firmware seems to think you have tool 2 configured for something, because it is telling PanelDue that you have 3 heaters in use. Please post your current config.g file.
