fatal accident on my duet 2 wifi
-
Hi there reprappers. I just avoided a fatal accident on my duet 2 wifi. One of the Power input connectors was badly burnt and the other one resides that powers the bed was getting very much the same look so I decided to desolder and replace both before it was too late
(
![Bed Heat Power damaged]The second image shows how badly I damaged the back side of the board to the point that the coating is lifting. I believe this is no longer safe. Does anyone know a way to somehow fix that, a workaround or should I just just get a new one?

Were the input power cables using bootlace ferrules? Bare wires have a tendancy to migrate and deform over time which can reduce the contact area, increase resistance, and ultimately causing it to heat up and melt.
If there is still viable solder pad there you could try retoucing it with an iron and flux and adding some solder, but teh safest advice may be when in doubt, toss it out.

I didn’t use the ferrules since it is a second hand board and they weren’t provided. Bare cables were connected. I replaced the connectors once about a year ago because of the same issue but this time I screwed up desoldering. So telltale is “use ferrules”

Even worse, when soldered...
Over time even solid copper wires get loose under static pressure of a screw terminal. That's why we use springloaded push-in terminals in house electrics. -
@juanggrados You might be able to still use the board with low current steppers and using an external bed-heater power supply controlled by SSD-relais.

@juanggrados the PCB trace between VIN+ and the bed fuse is lifted. You can solder a piece of thick copper wire between them in its place.
