I want to use 3 Extruders
-
@uneumann36 well to control the 3rd extruder you're going to need an additional driver. You're options are a Duex (2 or 5), or to use an external driver. I use three stepstick breakout boards with TMC2130s on to run my triple z axis. You get the step, dir & en signals from the 40pin header and just wire em up. Will certainly be smaller and cheaper than a Duex for what you need!
Some details on how to do it: https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Using_external_stepper_motor_drivers
In hindsight though, I might have been better buying a Duex as it would have given me more room for expansion for my next printer upgrade
Depending on exactly how you want to run your hotend (mixing or independent), you might be able to do something with multiplexing the motors, but tbh that will probably be bigger, more expensive and general mess than just adding the extra driver...

@uneumann36 said in I want to use 3 Extruders:
I thought about another board from Duet, with the possibility of 3 extruders. But i need wifi conection.
In that case, one option is the Duet 3 Mini 5+ WiFi with the 2+ daughter board.
-
Hey Guys
Thank you very much for your reply.
It helps me a lot to understand how it works. But next Question :
Does it make sense to use another Board who has enough point to connect extruders and so on?
Like Duet3 ??
I know there is no wifi applikation ? Right?
May i can bring a lan cable on it.?! -
Duet 3 Mini WiFi provides 5 on board drivers and WiFi, like the Duet WiFi. But it also offers a low-cost 2-driver expansion using a daughter board, and CAN bus for further expansion.
Duet 3 MB6HC provides 6 on-board drivers and CAN expansion, but Ethernet not WiFi.
Both are more future-proof than the Duet WiFi because they have CAN expansion and more flash memory and RAM that the Duet WiFi
-
Hey, thank you for your fast reply.
I am also thinking a new board like Duet3 is the best solution.
Do you know if the Duet3 MB6HC has the same size like the duet2 wifi?
And is it possible to use my existing Panel that is now connect to my Duet2 wifi? -
Duet 3 MB6HC is larger than Duet WiFi. Duet 3 Mini is the same size and has the same mounting hole positions, however the connectors are in different places. Both support PanelDue displays.
The MB6HC has more powerful stepper drivers than the Duet WiFi. The Mini has less powerful drivers. See https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/The_Duet_family_of_motion_control_electronics for a summary of the differences.

Hey, i am now at home and play with my Duet2 wifi and 3 in 1 out Hotend and extruders.
I connect 2 extruders to duet2 to see how it works.
In the moment i want only use 2 extruders.1 Extruder is working fine.
I try to setup my config.
But i don´t see at DWC my second extruder so i can´t switch. What do i wrong?
-
@uneumann36 It's hard to say what you've done wrong unless you tell us what you've done. Suggest you post your configuration file, then one of us might be able to help.
Btw, if you only load filament into 2 of the 3 inputs, then things will get very messy because filament will be forced back out of the unused input.

Thank you for your answers
So i am Not a Programming guy, so i do ist by learning by doing.
In this First step i will Try to keep this working
The Print Results are Not importent in the moment. So do i Unterstand Right ? When conifg is right, i can Heat up the hotend, make on dwc for example extrude 100 mm filament at 2mm/ sek.
And on dwc i can swop from one to the other extruder by selecting tool??? -
Any feedback about my question?
-
@uneumann36 The answer is yes
-
Ok, thank you very much.
And sorry for the may stupid question from me.
But as i told you, the programming stuff is not my favorite,
and i have to learn a lot ! -
@uneumann36 You asked the question "What have I done wrong?" How can anyone answer that when you won't tell us what you have done? I say again, post your configuration file, then we can see.
-
Hey all good!
I want to say thank you , all this information bring me forward.
ANd i will post my config when i am home -
Hey Guys
I am back home and play with my printer and extruder.Of course i am playing in the moment. I will try to heat up the hotend, und make hand extrusion via DWC from extruder 1 and after this extruder 2.
So i make a new config via config tool and bring it to printer.
Now i see 2 Tools , and Bed.
If i switch on tool on, both goes on. and also off when i switch on off.How to test both extruders via DWC ?
Here my config , hope someone has an idea. :

Hi Guys
At least i get my THC-01 working.
But i am not really happy how it works. Also i do not know how to slice a object.
May somebody has experiance with this hot end.
And a question from my side:
Is it possible to change the extruder while printing with no fail?
So that extruder 0 pull back filament 30mm and extruder 1 push filament 30mm and continue printing?
How can this work?Regards
Uwe -
@uneumann36 Yes you can do it, but you need to set a few things up. FYI I don't have a hotend like yours, but I do use a multi-tool printer (E3D chimera) - will try and make it relevant for yours.
Step 1 - you need to define the tool change macros that get executed when you switch between Tool 0 & Tool 1. You'll find information on these here:
https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/ConfiguringRepRapFirmwareCartesianPrinter#Section_Tool_change_filesYou can set up most of this in the slicer, but I find it more intuitive to put in the printer itself.
I think in tfree0.g & tfree1.g you'll add the retract 30mm (though the amazon product description I read says 45mm!). e.g.
G1 E-30 F300 ; retract 30mm @ 300mm/min
I think in tpre0.g & tpre1.g you could put the movement command as the docs suggest, or leave blank
Then in tpost0.g & tpost1.g, you would de-retract the 30mm (or 45mm!). e.g.
G1 E30 F300 ; deretract 30mm @ 300mm/min
In your slicer (I use PrusaSlicer), you will need to setup your printer as a multi-tool (or multi-extruder) printer. That then should open up the settings you need.
In PrusaSlicer, you can import a pair of STLs (one for either tool) and it will allow you to select the tool for either one. It will then put the 'T0' and 'T1' commands in the correct places to switch tool through the print.
You will want to play around with a few of the settings in your slicer (e.g. maybe using a prime tower). You may also need to tweak the tool change macros a bit (e.g. faster/slower retract/unretract, change the distance etc).
It can all be a bit complicated and will take quite a bit of tuning to get it right, but you'll get there

@engikeneer
Thank your very much for your feedback.Unfortunatly i have not big experiance in programing stuff.
Let me say, in the moment i just can swim a bit.Could you explain me how to do this, what is the exact code for this, and how and where to put it in?
I am sorry for my stupid question.

Or any other guy can help me?
