I'm considering buying a Duet3 and admit I'm feeling a bit dumb right now. Does someone mind enlightening me on what's new here?
Thanks a lot!

Hi,
Do you mean in the hardware, firmware or both?
I recently purchased two Duet 3 Mini 5 boards - highly recommended.
In the past my "goto" setup was a Duet 2 WiFi main board along with a Duex 5 expansion board.

I meant with the software - what David's screenshot is highlighting.
Your opinion is encouraging. I have a few printers running Maestros and I need to convert another one to either a Mini 5+ or Maestro.

@JadonM I believe he is highlighting the fact that tool board heaters can now be auto tuned. Previously only heaters connected to the main board could be tuned.

Thanks! That's what I was wanting to know. And yes, that is great news!

I was wondering what he was talking about.
Thanks.

@dc42 you tease! release it already!
-
I have a couple of bug fixes to RRF to do before the 3.3beta1 release.
-
Yay!!! I’m looking forward to this! My ground up extruder has been working like a champ, and the only final bit of refinement is the pid work.
-
@Nuramori to be fair it's easy easy enough to manual tune it... even though the second C parameter doesn't seem to be working in the current version

Correct, heater feedforward is not implemented in 3.2, but it is in the forthcoming 3.3beta.
-
@matt3o I know. I’ve done it before. I’m just being lazy :). Rewiring just for a pid is a pita on my machine.
-
@Nuramori not sure we are talking about the same thing. you can do manual tuning (without rewiring) directly on the tooldboard. You basically do with pen and paper what the pid tuning does automatically. I agree having the procedure automated it's better, but I guess I miss more the feedforward than the autotuning.
-
@matt3o oh then I’m definitely too lazy to do paper and pencil work. ! Lol.
Actually I’d do it but I’m not really in a rush atm. Dave and the team have been doing yeomans work and I can wait. Tbh the printing I’ve gotten on the current pid variables work fine for what I’ve needed. It’s more academic to see what the changes do with the new algorithms.
-
@dc42 Thank you! Looking forward to that feature, I never wanted to get good at PID loop tuning lol
-
@matt3o I see your point; it is not a very fast process and it is worthwhile to know how to tune a PID loop
Some people just want to build machines and that might be a nice feature for them. The algorithm looks like it performs pretty well...
