M300 Sound is almost inaudible ?
-
- Hello everyone...
I have a small problem with the M300 command.
After putting this command in Simplify3D "M300 S3000 P1000" to warn me of the end of my printing. But the sound is almost inaudible ...
I put the volume of my PanelDue 5 and nothing helps, the sound is still almost inaudible ...
Do you have a solution ?
Thank you !- Bonjour à tous...
Merci ! -
Try a lower frequency - the S parameter.
I am using this snippet to beep after the print has finished:M300 S200 P500 ; beep G4 S1 M300 S200 P500
-
does the inaudible sound last for 1 second? (P1000 = 1000ms = 1s)
-
it may be necessary to add a pause (G4) equal to the duration of the beep after the M300 like that shown in @resam example.
Such as:
;Play a little beep beep beep to show print ended. M400 ; Clear queue again before jingle G4 S1 M300 P250 S750 G4 P251 M300 P200 S1250 G4 P201 M300 P250 S750 G4 P251 M300 P200 S1250 G4 P201 M300 P250 S2500 G4 P251 M300 P150 S2000 G4 P151 M300 P150 S2500 G4 P151 M300 P350 S3700 G4 P351

Thanks for your advices...
resam: No, the sound does not last more than a second ... (for P1000)
I tried different frequencies and it does not change anything!
I pasted the whole code of Phaedrux and it's the same thing, the sound is very weak. You have to be right next to the screen to hear a semblance of sound!
Little information, when I navigate in the menu of my screen, by pressing the keys of my PanelDue the sound is very correct and if I send directly the code M300 in my web interface the sound is mediocre !

Does your PanelDue enclosure include holes for the sound from the piezo buzzer to pass through?
-
AFAIR the piezo buzzer is most sensitive around 4kHz.
-
Check that there isn't still a "Remove after washing" sticker over the buzzer.

The speaker of my PanelDue (i7) has a single hole in its center ... The protective plastic is no longer in place. And as I said in a previous comment, when I browse the PanelDue menu, the sound remains correct (volume level setting 5) but is not extraordinary either ... After looking for long hours, I find an improvement with G4 S1 M300 P950 S6400 but however not enough if one is in another room of the house when the printing is finished.

@rudy2a said in M300 Sound is almost inaudible ?:
however not enough if one is in another room of the house when the printing is finished.
I don't think it's really realistic to expect to hear it in another part of the house anyway. It's never going to be that loud. The high pitched beeps are attenuated quite strongly.
-
You're right ... it's an image to say that if I'm in another room of the house, I do not hear it. Simply, for me, the purpose of a beep at the end of printing is to warn us of the end of an impression if we are busy with another activity (3 or 4 meters of the machine for example) and not to stay nose in front of the machine, do we agree or not? If I have to stay with the machine to watch, what is the end of cycle beep for?

@rudy2a
I know this is an old thread but I've just installed a PanelDue 7i and am having the same problem of (almost) inaudible Pieso speaker.Has there been any progress in this area?
It would be really nice to be able to play various tones to signal events. Thanks

@brs Could you capture video or audio recording of what yours sounds like? The speaker isn't exactly loud, but it should be very audible in the the same room. Also, what M300 commands are you sending? Some frequency ranges are louder than others.

Here is the sound test code I'm now using. Definitely tone specific. But still not near as loud as I hoped. Higher tones are not my strong suit due to age related hearing loss.
M291 P"2 KHZ" R"Test Tones" T1.9 S0 M300 S2000 P2000 G4 P2000 M291 P"3 KHZ" R"Test Tones" T1.9 S0 M300 S3000 P2000 G4 P2000 M291 P"4 KHZ" R"Test Tones" T1.9 S0 M300 S4000 P2000 G4 P2000 M291 P"5 KHZ" R"Test Tones" T1.9 S0 M300 S5000 P2000 G4 P2000 M291 P"6 KHZ" R"Test Tones" T1.9 S0 M300 S6000 P2000 G4 P2000
Here is a link to the video (114mb) with sound. The fan you can hear in the background is almost inaudible but comes through clearly on the video as do the tones which I can't hardly hear in real life. The phone camera is about a 12" from the paneldue.

Yah. With the paneldue the M300 commands produce a tone that's only audible if you're standing right next to the printer. Which makes it kinda pointless.

There is plenty of space in the PanelDue mount enclosure on my printer. I'm wondering if anyone has tried to remove the piezo speaker and wire in a small amp with a real speaker.
The goal here is to be alerted from across the shop or in the next room of major printer events.
I'm in the process of wiring in a row of DotStars which should be able to at least give me a visual clue (flashing lights or something).

@brs the main function of the piezo in PanelDue is to provide feedback when you touch an active field on the panel. As you have observed, it isn't very loud.
It's driven in differential mode by 3.3V signals. There is a 470 ohm series resistor. You could try reducing the value of that resistor but I suspect you still wouldn't get the volume you want.
If you want to hook up an external amplifier, pick off the signal from just one of the pins of the piezo along with ground.
