If you want to use a step down buck converter generally you power them from 24v (Vin) from any always on source (not necessarily a fan header positive but that can sometime be a convenient pin) tie the input GND to the 24v Vin GND, run the positive output to the fan and then ground the fan back via the pwm fan pin you want to use to control the fan. How this ties in with 4 wire fans I do not know.

That's a relay module, not just a relay, so you don't need to use a flyback diode with it.

Assuming the board is a Duet WiFi or Duet Ethernet, you already have a 3rd thermistor input (E1 thermistor) on the Duet. You can connect further thermistors between the THERMISTORn pins and the VSSA pin of the expansion connector. Or you can upgrade your hot end thermistor to PT100 using the daughter board, then the E1 thermistor input becomes free too.

Whichever thermistor input you use, use the M305 command to configure a named virtual heater to use it.

Bipolar stepper motors are the correct sort to use. Suggestions:

Check that you have the wires in the correct order, i.e. black and green at one end of the connector, and red and blue at the other end; Check that the crimp connections on the connectors are good, using a multimeter if you have one; If the above checks pass, try a different motor output in case you have a blown driver.

I did the tfree#.g with M106 P0/2/4/6 S0 – and that works very well in conjunction with M106 R2 (that was the trick to restore/transfer fan setting between tools)This was a real annoyance since S3D doesn't issue M106 commands per tool, just per layer -- now that's no an issue anymore. Huge relief. Tool change is much faster without the part cooling fans blowing on the parking platform. I got a bit inpatient and broke out the trigger wires for the 4 axis to trigger relays - it actually worked, but obviously this is a lot better. I will repurpoose those breakout lines and maybe run some LEDs or something on the outside of the printer to indicate end stop hits. I don't use pause/resume, so this I believe is the last thing I needed to get my IQUEX? finished up... Thank you David. My YT build series should start soon -- the 6+ month build is nearly done.

My endstops don't trigger at all, I read your other post about moddin the optical endstop to get it to work. I will try that.

I guessed about the diode on input – I didn't think that there'd be another diode on the PanelDue -- belt and suspenders -- impressive. I increased the input voltage to 5.5 -- and the strangeness has gone away. Everything else is tolerant enough so there is no issue. I recommend you add a little note to the documentation that this is likely -- I am pretty sure I was borderline because before I got the little in inline volt/amp meter the PSU was set to 5.25 -- then I lowered it to get the readout to be 5 -- that's when the weirdness started to happen. Now everything is happy at 5.5.

Thanks your advise and tested the voltages with multimeter as follows.

Voltage when Jumper header on VIN : 28.3 / 28.3 / 28.3 / 15.6 / 0 (always-on / always-on / PWM0 / PWM1 / PWM2)
voltage when jumper header on 5V : 5.6 / 5.6 / 5.6 / 3.2 / 0
voltage from PSU : 28.3 (It should be 24volt but figures on multimeter 28.3)

Now I understand my PSU supplies some high voltage different from rated voltage and it made the fan out of order. In this case what can I do?

I think one option is just use 5Volt fan OR change PSU. Any other options?

In the meantime, can you advise why PWM2 on Duetwifi and all 5 PWM pins on DUEX5 shows 0 voltage, and shows 15.6volt on PWM1 on Duetwifi? PWM voltages varies depend on G-command in config.g file?

Thanks for sharing! BTW you can test the effect of different motor currents by sending the M906 command from the GCode Console, without rebooting the Duet. Then when you have found the value you are happy with, edit the M906 command in config,g as you did.

I'm at 14 steppers – dual idex. 4 for each x axis, 4 for the extruders, 2 on each Y gantry (4 total)-- running of the LCD header -- paralleled to 4 tmc2100s -- each output of the LCD header is split to 2 tmc2100s -- so I can get 24v to each Y stepper, and 2 lead screws. All working together.
