Did you copy DuetWiFiServer.bin to the SD card in a PC, move the SD card to the Duet, and then immediately send M997 S1 ? If so, either reboot the Duet or send M21 to remount the SD card, and then try the M997 S1 command again.

Try a different SD card?
-
Just tried two newly formatted cards and get the same problem.
M21: Cannot initialise SD card 0: Card is unusable

Looks like there may be a problem with the SD card socket then. When you run M122 with an SD card in the socket, does the report say that the SD card was detected, or not?
-
SD card 0 detected, interface speed: 0.2MBytes/sec
-
So it's not the card detect switch that's the problem. It's probably one of the contacts in the socket, or the processor.
Have you ever used a SD card extender with the microSD card socket?

SD card extender
Sorry no, should I?
Definitely not! SD card extenders can damage the socket.
If your Duet is under warranty, please ask your supplier to repair or replace it.

It is 2 years old so I guess not. Time to buy a replacement I guess. Thanks for helping anyway

It's probably possible to repair it. The soldering on the SD card socket pins and the resistor behind it would need to be checked, if nothing is found then the SD card socket replaced, and if that doesn't work then the processor replaced. Which country are you in?
-
UK, I bought directly from duet.
-
If you want to send it to me I can take a look, although it may take a little while due to my workload. So you should probably still buy a replacement.

New duet fitted and printer now back on online.
This is the state of the faulty duet. Sure you still want to take a look at repairing it? Looks pretty charred to me...
-
Gruesome.
-
That does look bad. From the distribution of the soot, it looks to me that something may have caught fire above the Duet, not on it. But you would need to clear away the soot and check for burned traces under it to be sure.

The board is mounted upside down, nothing below the board except my desk. Strange one indeed.
