Non planar layers

Interesting! Now we need a slicer to implement it.

This should be way up on the todo list for the slicers...

Anyone tried https://github.com/makertum/non-planar-layer-fdm
its 3 years old; strange it hasn't gotten any traction!

Very cool, I think it is a delta only function as delta can control Z axis at a high rate of speed.
It would provide very strong prints, however, very detailed prints may not turn out very well.
It would be very CPU intensive not only for the printer, but also for the computer (rocking a OC'd 8 core 16 thread Ryzen, and Vega64 so that's not an issue for me).
I think its a few years away for consumer grade printers.

CPU load on the printer would not be an issue, using a Duet. Printing curves in 4 dimensions are would need only a little more CPU times than curves in 2.

This seems to have almost all of the problems of 5-axis slicing. It works when the entire part is a single feature, but for anything more complicated the nozzle will collide with the part.
For example you cannot have a wavy surface adjoined to a flat one.

In my view this is most usefull for very gentle curves, I need to finish my Duet conversion before I can even try the script with slic3r, wonder if its still compatible with current version.

I agree, gentle curves on simple shapes, such as aerofoils and other curved upper surfaces.

I've already done two of those Tesla supercharger desktop USB chargers for some friends, a right hassle to post process the curves, but ABS gets a nice finish when wet sanding.
Will definitively try the same model with the non-planar script as it seems to be a perfect candidate for comparison and testing. However waiting for some wire and connectors to finish the Duet conversion so it'll be a couple of weeks.
