New Product Release - Precision Piezo Orion

@hevilp if you don't have an Orion, this works - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2801604
I'm using the standard X carriage, so the one I designed is designed for that.
-
I got this and it works like the last one you posted.

It does not work for me and I cannot realy find a solution.
I think the problem is, that the pressure is 90 degrees to the nozzle and not direct on it....
Again, How would I mount the aqua coolside to your mount? Where do the screws go?
-
@hevilp do you have 8mm or 10mm X axis rods? I found that there was just enough rotational flex in the Y/Z plane with the two 8mm rods such that if the piezo tension and adjustment pot aren't perfect, it just twists. It does work with a lot of trial and error though. I have a pair of 10mm rods to upgrade to at some point. The above though is why I wanted to change to using the Orion in a vertical orientation - any time I made any adjustments, I had to recalibrate it all. I suspect that 10mm rods will fix that too though.
-
I got 10 mm rods. I think with a normal v6 hotend it will work, but I did a lot of trial and error and it is getting more worse...
I will buy the Orion and use your mount. It should perfect my usercase, as it like yours.
Thanks but can you answer my question with the mount of the coolside
-
@hevilp I only designed the mount today, and have still not tested it. I don't know how the aqua differs from the air, so not sure how or if it will mount. I do remember reading that the mounting holes on the cooling block are in the same place though. I can put up the CAD files up on thingiverse so you can tweak if you need to.
-
But where do the screws go?
I just ordered the Orion kit and hope your mount will work and yes, of course I will tweak if its needed.
-
@hevilp It screws into the part that @Moriquendi linked.
-
I think you mean the screws on the top of the heatsink?
The aquacoolside got only 4 screws wholes on the back, so I'm need to mount it in anyway in the back. There are no screw wholes on the top.
And, I got the water tubes, I think they will not go through the Orion..
-
@hevilp ah, ok. Just looked up the Aqua, didn't realise the pipes came out the top. I don't believe that it can be made to work with the designs here, and I'm not even sure it would work with the Orion at all, as the pipes are right where the piezo would be.
-
But, the Orion needs a piezo disc right? So independent from the way of mount the it is a better Version of the v1.1?
-
Orion has a pair of piezos mounted onto the PCB, rather than being on a wire
-
Okay, is possible to create a mount with vertical orientation? Like the one we have not so good experience with?
-
@hevilp probably, though I'm not sure if the Orion would be any advantage over the other board there.
-
@hevilp I'm developing a board similar to the Orion that might be more suitable for the kind of vertical orientation you're talking about. It's currently being tested, if you want to cancel your Orion order just contact me through the store.

@Moriquendi , I used the contact Form on your site and wrote my wish to cancel the order, please do not ship it out and refund the money. Thanks
-
@hevilp Order cancelled and money refunded.
-
I see that DJDemonD is traveling, is it still possible to buy the Orion?
-
Absolutely, I took over running Precision Piezo in January though he still offers his help and advice when he's available. The Orion is available on the Precision Piezo website here

My Orion groove mount snapped on Monday. I have ordered one made in ABS to get me printing again. But what are the OEM mounts made of? And would Taulman 910 be one of the best materials to print the parts in? I plan to print full sets of spare parts, as I should have in the first place.
Since installing my Orion I have had a resonance at various points above the print surface. It seems to be an interaction between various parts of my CoreXY. It feels like it will shake things loose eventually somewhere, but so far it's not super obvious in the actual print. It's quite loud, and I could see it causing bed adhesion issues since the frequency seems perfect for shaking the parts loose from the bed. If the resonance originates in the Precision Piezo assembly like I think it does, this could be an achilles heel of this type of sensor.

Here's my modified Orion groove mount that overcame some difficulties that I had with the original. It's somewhat beefier than the original. I printed the replacement in PLA and it hasn't broken yet.
This forum is damn annoying that it won't let you attach stl or zip files!
