Switch back to headless with 3.5.4
-
I have always run headless but recently tried a display. I am running into all kinds of problems. I want to go back to headless but without painful re-flashing everything and restoring backups. Mainly I want to stop the desktop loading and anything else that consumes RAM. Is there a quick edit I can make to some config file?

Do you have an extra SD card for the lite version?
You can copy across the config files.
This is probably a better idea than trying to lobotomize the full version -
@Phaedrux I know how to back up the g files and restore. How would I keep the plug-ins and any other customization?

@jltx Plug-ins are version specific, so you will need to reinstall them. Everything else is found in /opt/dsf/sd on the Raspberry Pi.

Ok, it was as simple as using raspi-config to boot to terminal (CLI) instead of desktop (GUI). I'm new to RPi so this was probably obvious to all.
BTW, fun fact, the desktop uses about 600 KB RAM at 1280x900. That leaves me with about 960 KB free which I hope is sufficient.
Bonus side effect was switching to CLI and back seems to have resolved my system instability. So I am happy.
