Duet for router with rotary and laser and maybe a 3D printer
-
Morning All - I am designing an 8x4 router and want to use Duet to control it. Its initial config will include a rotary axis and a laser. Then down the track I'd like to add a 3D printer to it for large scale printing. I'd like to use servos for routing and rotary. So my question is what is the best place to start so I can grow this system into the future? and I'd like to use input shaping... all the bells and whistles... Thanks in advance - Peter

@Peteeng assuming you want to drive the axes with stepper motors directly from the main board, then either Duet 3 6HC or Duet 3 Mini would be best, depending on how much voltage and current the stepper motors need. As a rough guide, Duet 3 Mini can drive up to Nema 17 motors while Duet 3 6HC can drive up to Nema 34. In all cases you should choose the stepper motors to match the board capabilities.

@dc42 Hi David - I'd like to run servos, so which board to use? Peter

@Peteeng A short look in the Duet wiki or the shop would give you the answer.

@o_lampe Hi Lamp - I have been reading lots of stuff and there are oceans to go. Been looking for a clear & simple description on how to connect this to a CNC with servo motors. I'll get there slowly. I think the Duet 3 - 6XD is the starting point...Ta Peter
