DUET3 6HC with NEMA17
-
I want to rebuild a ROLAND CAMM3 machine, which seems to have 3xNEMA17 X Y Z.
Do I need a DUET3 6HC, eventually associate 2 drivers for one stepper or a DUET 6XD and some external stepper drivers like DM542T?
Many thanks for advice

I'm not sure what you're asking. The Duet 3 6HC will drive most NEMA 17 just fine, but there is more to a motor than just it's size form factor.

@Phaedrux I am thinking about current, both peak and hold, since it's a CNC, not a 3D printer.

@audryhome The only way to answer your question is to have the data for the motors which can then be compared to the data for the Duet motor drivers. What does the data sheet for your motors say?

@audryhome if https://docs.hacman.org.uk/old_wiki_files/Equipment/Roland_CAMM3/ is correct, they are 6-wire 1.5A 5.4V motors, originally driven at 33V. That page also suggests that driving them with 24V is sufficient (the maximum travel speed may be reduced compared to running them from 33V, but on a CNC machine I guess that doesn't matter).
You can certainly use a 6HC board with those motors, but unless you want to use it with 33V or even 48V power, it's overkill for those motors. A Duet 3 Mini would be sufficient if you intend to use 24V power.

@dc42 Many thanks for advice, will keep u posted when done.
