Printer on public network - Login to access DWC?
-
I work at a public library and we're getting ready to put a Modix Big 40 in the Digital Media Lab. Wondering if it's possible to require a login to access DWC. It will likely be on a public network and would like to have some level of security so someone would need to know more than the IP address to access the machine.
Thanks.

You can set a password with M551
https://docs.duet3d.com/en/User_manual/Reference/Gcodes#m551-set-password
Perhaps safer to have a dedicated PC direct connected to the Duet, either through ethernet or with the Duet wifi in access point mode?

@zemlin we really do not recommend putting a printer controlled by a duet directly on a public network. There are options to have it on its own network that are worth securing. The password on DWC is sent in plain text and so should not be considered secure.
Two better options;
-
Use access point mode and keep the login details for the access point private. this is better but not very secure.
-
Segment your network in some way so that the printer is in its own private network with only trusted machines.
-
use a specific router so physically put the printer on its own network.
There are so many possible network configurations that its hard to give more specific advice.

The Duet Wifi board has been replaced with an Ethernet board, and the machine is now on a separate network that will not be accessible from the public wifi or publicly accessible computers.
Thanks.
