Mesh bed leveling Z Endstop switch

Using Duet 3 Mainboard 6HC with Duet 3 1XD Expansion Board
Is it possible to run mesh bed Compensation with a endstop switch? When I try the printer goes into the Manual Bed Probing. I would like it to do the probing automatically. -

But you can have both a Z Endstop and a Z probe.

@signpostman that why you should've defined your probe as a probe and not an endstop as suggested in your previous post.
It's z probe only i'm afraid (or manual) -
The question is, do you have a z probe on the print head at all, or just a z endstop fixed on the frame?
-
@phaedrux I have a Endstop attached as the Z Probe. I couldn't get the BL Touch to work. My printer is really large 2600x1300x300 and the cables I think were to long
-
@signpostman where is it attached to?
-
@jay_s_uk Right Now I am in testing and I just have it attached to the lin rail in Z.
To be honest I really don't understand that there is a Z Probe separate from the Z Endstop. is it not the same thing? -
@signpostman no, they are very different.
for one, an endstop is fixed to the frame, can be at the maximum or minimum of travel.
the z probe can be used to level the bed, look at how flat the bed is and can be configured with an offset to the nozzle in X, Y and Z.
a Z endstop is only really useful at max travel for print recovery -
@jay_s_uk OK, that is why the endstop cannot be used for bed leveling. I just assumed they were the same thing. I will try to install a Z-Probe again. Any suggestions for a Z-Probe that will work over a long cable? the BL Touch does not seam to like it.
-
@signpostman you could just stick with the switch if it doesn't get in the way of the nozzle.
on one of my printers I use a BFPtouch (poor mans bltouch) and on another I run an inductive probe.
Or, you could look at running a toolboard on the print head allowing you to use a bltouch -

The clue should have been different commands, the M574 command for configuring an endstop and the M558/G31 commands for configuring a Z probe.
Whatever Z probe you use it has to be attached (or attachable) to the XY gantry in such a way that the probe tip can touch the bed surface.
Naturally you have to observe all instructions regarding the installation of whatever Z probe you chose.

@jay_s_uk Tool board is a great idea, I bet it will eliminate the problem with the long cable. Will I also need a Tool Distribution Board?
-
@signpostman not if you're using just one
-
@jay_s_uk If I want to use the CAN connection to eliminate the problem with the length of the wires, I may need the Tool Distribution Board.
-
@signpostman i mean you don't need (or shouldn't need) a distribution board if you're only using one toolboard.
-
@jay_s_uk OK, Thanks
Thanks for your help Jay_s_uk -

Get the TDB - it makes the connection of power and CAN much easier and foolproof.
