Duet 3 Mini TMC 2209 Drivers and 09. stepper
-
Stepper Motors are next on my list to purchase (LDO) followed by the new Duet 3 mini 5+ but have seen a few discussions with people having noise and vibration issues when using 0.9 stepper motors with TMC2209 drivers. Should I use all 1.8 for my X & Y? Has anyone had any problems like this?

@markjf there are at least two issues that may affect the noise of 0.9deg vs 1.8deg motors:
-
0.9deg motors have to be driven at twice the frequency of 1.8deg motors. Due to motor inductance, this means that they need higher drive voltage. So it's more important to choose low inductance motors if you choose 0.9deg motors (while keeping the rated current low enough for the TMC2209), and essential to use 24V power not 12V. You can use the EMF calculator at https://www.reprapfirmware.org/ to estimate the VIN voltage needed. If you command the motor to move at a speed such the the total voltage needed exceeds the VIN voltage, then the motor will become very noisy.

The mid band resonance frequency will be different using 0.9deg motors. This may make your machine quieter or noisier, depending on what mechanical resonances your machine has.
I use 0.9deg motors in my delta and SCARA machines (in which the increased resolution of 0.9deg motors is useful), and 1.8deg in my Cartesian and CoreXY printers (in which increased resolution is not useful).

@markjf
I just read a test regarding LDO 0.9 stepper and overheating problems with TMC drivers (not 2209) in the Prusa forum.
They compared them with 'moon' steppers and these seem to match better, with better print results.
The thread was 50 pages long, so please forgive me, if I got the conclusion wrong
