Duet 3 6HC - Short to ground issue.
-
You would see a short to ground error, and the affected motor not moving.

@elmoret
hi in case of future problems will they be under warranty for how long? or do they have to replace them? what will they do? -
Yes of course, Duet's warranty information is publicly posted: https://www.duet3d.com/warranty

I've confirmed that the problem is caused by the soldering between the 6-pin dual diode packages and the board being bad.
I can confirm this issue on my board as well. Probing across the resistor gives different results than across the diode pins.
Interestingly, it looks like one of the diode packages on my board was reworked. Maybe the assembly house spotted the issue during inspection and tried to fix in some cases (but clearly not all).

To clarify: if any of the 4 diode packages associated with each driver is not properly soldered, then if you are using 24V power, you will get a short-to-ground report and the motor concerned will vibrate or not move at all. But if you use 12V power, you will most likely not get a short-to-ground report and the motor will move normally.
At this stage we do not know whether all boards with KAXS4 marked diodes are likely to be affected, however it does appear that the issue affects more than a single reel of diodes.

Hello everyone! as already said my duet 3 6ch card arrived a few days ago and one of those interested cod. (WD41xxx) diodes (kaxs4) I have tried all 24 volt drivers for now they all work no errors!
-
Hi Tony, thanks for the info. That aligns with what we are seeing, not all diodes soldered badly.
What is your board serial number?
-
Hello ! and this right?
-
I received my Duet 3 last week; I had time to install it until Monday; unfortunately, Driver 0 and Driver 1 are not working, motors vibrate, and in the Duet Web Control there is a message saying "Short-to-ground reported by drivers #(number of driver)". I tested the same motors/wires in drivers 2-5, and they work perfectly, my system has dual Z and X-axis, so I really need the 6 driver channels. The serial number is WD41385.
-
hello are you powering the card at 24volt?
-
@Erika-de-la-Cruz Please email info@duet3d.com if you have not already done so. Thanks.
-
@tony73 thanks, helpful to track the boards that are working well as well.

Hi there,
I have one of these matching boards, serial number WD41269 with those KAXS4 diodes.
Right now I'm using a 12V power supply and the board is working fine, no errors or anything using 5 of the 6 drivers. My question considering warranty as I do plan switching to 24V in the future.
Will I need to rush upgrading the printer to 24V so I don't miss the warranty time?
I bought the board from E3D a couple weeks back, so it's mostly so I can manage things and plan ahead.Thanks.

@Phaedrux Hi, thank you! I've already contacted filastruder, in fact, I posted here because they sent me a form to fill, which asked to do so.
-
@tony73 Hi, yes, I have a 24v system and was trying to upgrade from a Duet 2, I've contacted filastruder support, and I'll send the board back soon for a replacement. Thank you.
-
@Ralms please contact info@duet3d.com I don't want to rush the upgrade for you.

Hi all,
I'm a noob with the Duet hardware and just got my first duet card with the Duet 3 6HC which I received a couple of weeks ago but haven't get the time to install it yet.
Here's my card serial, D3MB6HCV1.01 / WD41551; are you able to let me know if the card is impacted by the issue and if so should I reach out to the reseller for a replacement?
Thanks
-
@aldiallo the only way to tell for sure is test the drivers on 24V power. You are covered by warranty so its worth testing it before returning it as only part of this batch is affected.

Thanks T3P3Tony, I'll make some time this weekend and will give it a try and advise

Hi also having the issue with short to ground, already emailed support and needed to post on the forum to start the replacement process with filastruder. Serial number WD41384 with KAXS4 diodes short to ground on all drivers with 24v
