Possibly fried duet with an in spec power supply

I'd use a current limited supply to avoid damage, but thats because I have one.
Then again I'm inclined to think whatever is the culprit is already damaged, so its possible you'll let some smoke out, but odds are that part is already living on borrowed time.
(Ref the community repair thread, the guy in the US only recently passed, and I fear he left an unexpected void on so many levels; rest his soul)

I'd say you have nothing to lose. I remember seeing a lot of Duet 0.6 boards with burnt processors like that, usually from shorting VIN directly through the processor, usually on thermistor inputs or endstops. But the Duet 2 has a lot more protection on it against that.
Try hooking up VIN without USB connected and SD card removed, see what power LEDs come on (on the edge by the reset/erase buttons). With luck, it will show that either the 5V or 3V regulator has died. The board may not power up, but it might mean you can look for other places that may be shorting.

@bearer its not that its unclear, but when it comes to a project like assisting people with fixing electronics I just didnt think departed. Just thought he helped x amount of time and is no longer helping.

Given the damage to the CPU who knows what else could be gone or about to go, so this may be your best option over repair.

While its more likely the cpu needs replacing than the wifi, i'd start with the wifi because its cheaper and easier. Its off to one side of the board and no huge ground planes, 2mm pitch instead of 0.5 or 0.4.

oh yes! or an ftdi 3.3v usb ttl adapter could also be used, (maybe evnen prior to removal to see if the uart on the esp is ok - but depending on the fault it might work outside the circuit even if it doesn't work in the circuit)

Thanks guys, this is a lot for me to process. I'm going to try giving the wifi replacement a shot, and if that doesnt work might play around with CPU replacement, if only to see if I can. This is a lot for me to process, fairly new to actually messing with circuit boards.

if you remove the wifi and find it faulty, there is now the option to use a Raspberry Pi like the Duet3, so if you have one (not 1st gen and not zero) laying around that might be an option once support is fully tested and released.
(Low temperature bismuth* solder or a chipquik smd removal kit will make removal of chips with external pins a lot easier and reduce the risk of damage to the board. Some good flux also makes installing new chips a lot easier

Thanks again. I have the new board updated, that went fine. Wired up power supply and tested voltage. Using a 360w power supply this time. Tested it. Wired for board but havent turned it on because.... I'm not nervous your nervous.
Anyone see any issues?

@Luckypriest, did you try to replace the WiFi module? I think there is a good chance that will get the board working.

@dc42 I havent yet, got a replacement board and successfully got that powered on. Doing that replacement is going on the backburner for a bit while I finish this printer. I've gone ahead and marked this topic and closed.
