Duet 3 Mini 5+ : Initial announcement
-
@DaBit I have the same invoice from E3D. It's FedEx the issue
-
Yes, Fedex and UPS will screw you. VAT, import duties, and on top of that a lot of additional cost for customs clearance, delivery, administrative work, carbon footprint compensation, delivery guy coffee cost compensation, channel crossing waiting time compensation, currency exchange cost, some cost related to corona because that is a handy excuse, some cost related to Fukushima because it used to be a handy excuse, toe nail clipping expenses, and I probably forgot a bunch of other costs.
-
The VAT you would have paid anyway, it's the charge they make for collecting the VAT that is the problem. Also, most carriers have increased the charges for shipping from UK to EU now because of the Brexshit paperwork.
-
I don't have problems with paying VAT and import duties, or at least no more than when buying from local suppliers. If I buy from a local store I have to indirectly pay those as well, and not having to pay them (e.g. when ordering something from Banggood) is unfair to local shops. They go out of business, and sooner or later we have to order every screw from some random seller X that takes three weeks to arrive. An undesirable situation IMHO.
I do have problems with the rest of the cost structure; With PostNL it happens from time to time that I have to pay EUR 15,95 for transport from customs clearance to the final destination. Normally sending a package from A to B within NL would cost EUR 6,95.... They simply make you pay for all the other packages that slip through unnoticed.
But oh well, there is little you can do about it. And they know that too.

@DaBit I once sent a home audio system amplifier back to the manufacturer for a repair service and one the return shipment the shipper wanted to charge me import fees, duties, taxes, etc, etc, etc, before they would return it to me. I had a very hard time trying to explain to them that I didn't have to pay any of that because it's not a new product because I already owned it, etc etc. They demanded receipts to prove I already owned it. I sent them a copy of my mortgage because it came with the house. Not good enough. Eventually I just went back to the manufacturer that did the repair to contact them and explain it. Finally that did it and they delivered it. Very frustrating because I was the one paying for the shipping both ways.

@T3P3Tony Any update on the ETA of 2+ expansion cards ?
(the 5+ looks sold out pretty much anywhere... i was quick to grab one though) -
Yeah we are shipping the 5+s out to our resellers as they come in and then a full production run will kick in towards the end of January for delivery in Feb
The mini 2+ are being made this week so we should get them in next week and out to our resellers ASAP!
-
My Mini 5+ is taking the world tour. Scheduled delivery was the 11th, now it is 'Pending / no scheduled delivery date available'.
Oh well...
-
Same here...was 8th. Hope it does not come with Brexit surprise...too
-
Mine arrived. Had to pay EUR 39,05 extra. 23 euro something was VAT which I had to pay anyway, the rest was fees. Not too bad after all.
Right on time, I am getting close to having my X axis finished enough to put it through some testing.
-
Now I can finish the wiring and get the final design for this enclosure
All the holes are from previous boards , displays and card readers......but I will not be changed before everything is in the place
-
i got mine too... however for a 99 £ card ending up with 57 £ of shipping (from seller), VAT and various FedEx "fees" does not qualify as "not too bad" for me...rather absurd
Looks like for EU zone shipping from Uk is becoming not an option anymore, at least when FedEx is in the middle... -
I can only speak for myself, but:
- The UKP 13,39 shipping cost: stiff, but I knew that in advance and accepted that. E3D explicitely stated that they would do Fedex only.
- The VAT: did not pay that in the UK, so NL VAT is it. Expected costs. When buying locally you would have to pay that also.
What is left is the cost Fedex charged, 15-20 euros. I do have an opinion on that; they knew they were shipping from UK to NL non-company before they picked up the package, and it is quite a chunk of money for some computerized paperwork. But I also knew that was coming.
Worth it? I needed a board to drive a motor. I could have bought another random board and a Duet3 later, but that would have been just as expensive or worse.
We shall see what the pricing is going to be when the boards are available locally. I don't think the difference is going to be that bad.

@DaBit you may be right. I wonder (and confess total ignorance on VAT) if the Euro VAT can be paid at source (when you order) if we could get rid of the shipper surcharges... that would be ideal
-
Hello, sorry if this question has already been asked but aren't TMC 2209 stated with 2.0A RMS? im planning to use steppers with rated current 2A

I think this is the intention of the new EU rules that is due to take effect July 1st, google "Import One Stop Shop VAT" for details.
However its not all happy times; goods over €150 or from sellers who didn't implement IOSS will still need to be processed at the border, including those low value packages that are exempt today. Processing at the border means the couriers are free to keep charging whatever they like, possibly more than before to compensate for lower volume. For shipments that fall under IOSS there is no reason for any processing or charges.
I'm mostly pleased with how it turned out in Norway, JLCPCB said they'd make all the changes for July 1st instead of the Norway rules first and then the EU rules in July. My favourite independent chinese site said they would migrate to eBay or AliExpress instead of complying with the new rules

Values quoted on data sheets are under ideal conditions, with large heatsinking areas that are impractical in most real-world applications.
2A steppers will be fine.

Got a Mini 5+ and am laying out an enclosure design in CAD
I can't seem to open the STEP model files located on the Hardware Overview page here:
