Over temperature shutdown reported by driver(s) 3
-
Powered up my printer running a Duet Ethernet today and got this error on my extruder driver. "Over temperature shutdown reported by driver(s) 3" Checked wiring and if the driver was actually hot and not feeling a huge difference. Decided to try a few things:
- Tried a different wire harness - same error
- Disconnected anything from that driver - same error
- Connected my X axis to that driver - same error
Rules out the stepper/wire being the issue and thinking now it is sadly the board. I am still under a year from having this (Sept 2019) but I havent had to file a claim with any of my duet products yet. What is that process?
In the short term could I remap my second extruder for use and ignore this broken one?
Thanks

I thought I might be able to continue printing by ruling out E0 and remapping to E1 by inserting M584 E4. Unfortunately, when I double-checked to see if the driver chip on E0 was overheating it was extremely hot and the over-temperature error persists (for good reason). Was hoping that command would just cut off power to that stepper driver but I guess it continues to overheat. I guess it would actually have to give off the magic smoke to completely stop functioning and then maybe M584 E4 could work?

If it overheats when not enabled then yeah, it'll probably keep doing that until whatever is shorted out inside burns out. On the other hand if the powersupply doesn't shut down and the fuse didn't blow it might take a while for that to happen as the fault current cant be all that big.
Removing the driver would likely work, if you don't have the soldering tools/skills some carefull dremel work could allow you to cut all or a select few pins without damaging the board. Primary targets in red

The normal warranty is six months, so I suggest you get your claim in quickly. See https://www.duet3d.com/warranty.

Thanks for referring me to that. Looks like I'm 10 days over my warranty. Would I still have the OK to open up a claim and if so since the board was bought through a reseller would I just reach out and say I've spoken to the Duet team?

If you purchased your board in September, you are still within the warranty period.
