Magnetic Filament Sensor Updates?
-
I would assume the Magnetic Sensor will be better in being able to pick up more plastic types, but is there a pros/cons spreadsheet comparing both the laser and magnetic sensors? Would there be any cases where you would want both sensors because of those pros/cons? (not sure if you could use both at the same time)
-
Magnetic sensor: Considerably more reliable/accurate/robust. Also more expensive.
-
Just checking in to see if there are any updates on the magnetic sensors?
-
We are still testing the new prototypes.
-
Interesting that Prusa has abandoned this whole idea and gone another way. I think they went back to a mechanical switch.
-
Has there been any progress on the sensors? I have seen a few posts regarding the sensors and I believe a beta testers post. Just wondering if there is any news at all on them.

Yes, we expect to offer them for sale in the near future.

Have you received any of the assembled sensor boards yet?I would love to see any pictures you may have laying around.
-
@dc42 Can you please shed some light on how near this "near future" is?
I am eagerly awaiting the public availability of the magnetic sensor, and I'd be glad to support you in testing the current prototype version. -
@themelle, our supplier had some issues with manufacturing the plastic housings. Tony may be able to provide a more recent update.

Hey everyone,
Is there an update on these? I would be keen to get one.
Kind Regards,

Tony may have an update later this week.

Is this the Magnetic Filament Sensor everyone has been waiting for?
https://www.filastruder.com/products/duet-magnetic-filament-monitor?variant=17729483374663I assume it is but haven't seen (just missed it maybe?) any confirmation.
Thanks!

It is but I am not sure whether they were going to do some more work to it before they released it which is why I have not ordered one yet
Kind Regards,

I have seen it on Filastruder for a few weeks now and have also held off. I would really like to know if I am waiting for no good reason... Also, I found it odd it comes pre built. And want to know why they did that. It's just does not seem like them to sell something (to makers) that is already made. I would have expected them to release the STL and I would have printed my own. But instead they used SLS (or similar?) and not FDM to print it themselves.
Just curious... -
@BlueDust they have stated you can do fdm but you need to print at high resolution and requires adjustment to ensure the magnet lines up correctly.

@samlogan87
I haven't seen anything about it, but haven't spent more than 15 min looking in the forums this week. If this info is in the documentation page, I haven't read it line by line yet. Just skimmed it to start reviewing the GCODE config for it.. appears to be similar to the laser monitor. I already have a laser monitor and it doesn't look different to setup. -
The reason it comes pre-built is that at present it's difficult to test all the components of the magnetic filament monitor without assembling it. We don't just have to test the electronics, we have to verify that the SLA-printed housing holds the magnet at the correct distance from the sensor.

I received my Magnetic Filament Sensor. Haven't installed it just yet, but noticed there is a handwritten number on the PCB board. Is that the Serial Number? Maybe n'th one built?
