Stepper motors

Hey, all got a question about stepper motors. Is there such a thing as best for precision. Like If you were to build a printer and money wasn't a problem what would be the best stepper motor you would buy and why?

I suppose if money was not a question I might try something more exotic like a servo or some kind of closed loop system, but honestly for any printer I'm likely to build I'd probably stick with these:
They pair pretty much perfectly with the DuetWifi. There's also a 1.8 degree version if you need a bit more torque.

Hi,
I have purchased a couple of dozen steppers from the referenced site (stepperonline) and have always been very happy with the products.

High precision/accuracy industrial machines often use 5 phase stepper motors that are built to deliver 500 or 1000 steps per rev. Combining those with microstepping drivers can make for very fine position control.
Run this search term in ebay:
5 phase stepper -2 phase -two phase -four phase -4 phase -3 phase -three phase
and you'll see a lot of listings for 5 phase motors and drivers. The smaller motors tend to be rated for either 750 mA or 1.4A and for the same physical size, the torque is usually lower than 2 phase motors. Some motors are wound for pentagon connections and others for star connections. I believe the driver has to match the motor configuration, so you have to shop carefully to ensure compatibility.

Those are the ones I use as well. Got 7 of them for the movement axes but use a 1.8 deg one for the extruder.

@melfesto If money is not a problem, I would use linear actuators like http://www.airoil.com/products/view/511/ultra-high-speed-magnetic-linear-actuator.html
There was a DIY project on reprap https://reprap.org/forum/read.php?160,813817,page=1, but unfortunately it died.

what do you all think of something like this.

@melfesto They seem expensive for the torque provided.

https://www.linengineering.com/products/stepper-motors/z417-series/z417-17-02/#fndtn-standard_motorI'm would imagine they are good but I only pay more when I find I must.
The ones I referenced have worked fine for me (and others).
