End stop LEDs flickering
-
Hi I have a Duet2 ethernet board, running firmware 2.02, on a large custom printer.
I am seeing the endstop LEDs go bright red when the microswitch is triggered, but afterwards, they remain faintly lit and flickering. Is this normal? -
No it's not normal. Are they bare microswitches, or are they mounted on a PCB with a LED and resistors? If they are the sort with a LED then you should wire them differently. See the section on Makerbot endstop switches on the wiki page about connecting endstop switches.
-
They are bare wired microswitches. They are wired to pins 1 and 3 of the connectors on the board.
-
In that case it's odd that they are flickering unless the Duet doesn't have steady 5V power. How are you powering the Duet?
-
I have a 12VDC supply connected to the Power In connections, .

It sounds to me that you are using normally open switches. If the wires to them run close to stepper motor wires, they will pick up a signal by capacitive coupling, which might explain it.
-
Yes the cables do run together in a large bundle from the machine to the cabinet with the Duet. The switches are configured as normally closed at the moment, but it would be easy to make them N.O.

Normally closed is recommended. The endstop LEDs should be lit when the endstop switch is not triggered, and unlit when it is triggered.
