Printer starting to act odd after firmware update.
-
I just updated to 1.21 (yeah, I'm slow) and the printer did a half dozen prints just fine but all of the sudden, I'm having odd issues. First, after a long print finishes, instead of homing all axis, it homes just one axis and then stops. The PanelDue shows the temps going down as they should but the active temperature is still the printing temp. If you type in a temp, it shows that but as soon as you hit enter, it goes back to the old print temp. If you select the temp in the drop down menu, it will select that temp and stay there but the active temp keeps dropping.
Also, every now and then, during the print, the motors get real loud (sounds like an alarm going off) and they start either doing real large random moves or they just keep repeating the same line in the print.Board going bad or did the firmware update maybe go wrong?
Edit: The homing after print issue only seems to happen after longer prints. Shorter prints seem to home fine so far.

Can you post some more information? Like what board, firmware versions.
Are PanelDue and DWC up to date as well?
1.21 is pretty old at this point. It may be easier to just make sure everything is fully up to date.
-
Like I said above., firmware 1.21.1.21 for all 3. The board is a DuetWifi. PanelDue firmware could probably use an update but shouldn't be causing the homing issue or runaway motors.
More info. I don't believe it is a slicing issue either. When the runaway motors issue occurs, I can run the same print again and the issue does not reoccur. Also, two files sliced with the same profiles. The shorter to print file seems to home after print fine, while the longer print one has the issue.

I agree, upgrade to 2.02 and which of those problems (if any) persist. Read the upgrade notes for the versions you skipped first.

OK. I'll give that a shot.

I updated all the firmware. All seemed well until tonight. It was printing fine, then just stopped. I looked over and saw the wifi startup message. The DuetWifi had restarted itself. No console errors. Just a disconnect from the restart.
Some additional history of this printer. I have 3 printers (soon to be 4) running DuetWifis. This one has had a history of layer shifting at random times. It has been mostly in the X and Y axis but I've also experienced it in the Z axis. It has also had issues where I touch the frame and odd things happen such as the screen just freezes or the printer freezes. I'm wondering if it is possible that static is building up in the printer causing the spurious errors. I live in AZ and static, especially during the winter, does build up easily due to the dry weather.
None of my other printers have these issues.
Thoughts?

@speedydad Is your frame grounded? Motors? Static build up could very well be an issue.
-
It is not. I guess I could try running a wire from the power supply ground to the frame to see if it fixes these issues.
-
Not a bad idea for safety sake either.

If that happens again, run M122 immediately. Look at the "Last reset reason" in the report. If it was Software, post the Software Reset Data here. If it was Power Up, you probably had a power brownout.

I ran it just now and got:
Last software reset at 2019-01-16 21:11, reason: Hard fault, spinning module Platform, available RAM 6336 bytes (slot 0)
Software reset code 0x4030 HFSR 0x40000000 CFSR 0x00000400 ICSR 0x04427003 BFAR 0xe000ed38 SP 0x2001ffbc Task 0x4e49414dthat is about the time it reset. Not 100% sure that was it but pretty sure

Yes, that's exactly the information I need if the problem happens again when you are using current firmware.
