Mounting a radial fan on the Smart Effector
-
Just a couple of observations on the design for the underside fan mounts.
-
The cooling fan can not be changed to the back. The jumper and the connector for the cooling fan are there. As well as the heater connector. So the cooling fan and cover won't allow for it to go there.
-
When looking at the left side of the board, the Termistor connector is in the way and won't allow for connection. That thing has a pretty good drop on it. That's like a good 20mm from the top of the PCB to the bottom of the clip there.
I really believe that about the only place that you'll be able to put that type of fan is in the right side of the board. And even then you'll have to turn the cooling fan a smidge.
I may be looking at it all wrong too. But that is what I found when I printed them out and tried them.
Great work so far there guys.

Here's my design, this time with a 40x20mm blower fan:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2732877I'm happy that the design extends minimally beyond the effector triangle, but in terms of cooling efficiency, other fans/designs may be better. I've got some 40mm fans on order to try out too.
Comments welcome! Lots of nice designs on this thread.

I've also create a mount/nozzle for a 5015 blower fan. Not the prettiest there is, function before form?!
You might loose some printarea depending on your setup though.https://i.imgur.com/YGceDSz.jpg?1
I haven't done any briding tests with it yet but it looks promising.

I've been using this design with a 30mm fan for a couple months now, also based on the tusk idea. Sorry, no pix handy.
It mounts on the bottom side of the SE, under 2 magballs, so no extra hardware is needed. I need to trim it down some, possibly splitting it into 2 parts as others have done.
I printed it in PETG, which gives it enough flex for the fan to snap in place. I printed it with the left side on the bed (as viewed when looking at the fan); I don't recall for sure, but it was likely with 0.20 to 0.30 layers (0.6 nozzle).

I've just finished my new mount for the Smart Effector. It is designed for a 40 x 15mm radial fan.

Nice!

If I might, I'd like to ask a related question. What is the minimum distance recommended for ducts or other protrusions above the nozzle tip? Don't want to crash into the bed or print.
Thanks in advance!
-
1mm is normally sufficient, unless you need more to provide clearance from bed clips.
-
Thanks again.

I've just added 2 further ducts - one for 5mm tusks and one for 6mm tusks. As they are attached with magnets it is easy to switch between the 4, 5 and 6mm versions to suit the job at hand.

This was my solution
Sunon 30mm blowers 5v but will pwm down from 12v if you limit them in your slicer to 30-40% (you can blast them at 12v for short periods such as bridging). I have found they work quite nicely with diffuse airflow but you print and bond ducts to them if you wish.
No loss of print volume as they sit under the effector. Brackets I can put on thingiverse, just bond fans on with superglue/ca glue.
I have them in my shop.
