11 Steppers
-
Is It possible while using a Duetwifi and Duex5 to get an 11th stepper drive hooked up externally? If so what where would I hook up the step direction enable? I need 11 steppers for the build I have envisioned. Thank you.

Yes, you can connect 2 external stepper drivers to the CONN_SD connector, making 12 stepper drivers in total. Documenting this is on my todo lis; meanwhile there is a thread on this forum about it at https://www.duet3d.com/forum/thread.php?pid=19715#p19715.
EDIT: I've updated the documentation at https://duet3d.com/wiki/Using_external_stepper_motor_drivers.

Sorry…. But, what kind of printer needs 11 steppers?

I'm using 10 steppers but can see a need for more. Dual Core XY so two Alpha motors and 2 Beta motors for XY motion (or if you prefer 1 each for XYU and V). One motor for Z makes 5 plus 1 each for the 5 extruders (it's 5 colour) makes 10. So if I drove each lead screw independently rather than use a single motor and continuous belt, I'd need another 2 steppers making 12 in total.

I'm at 14 steppers – dual idex. 4 for each x axis, 4 for the extruders, 2 on each Y gantry (4 total)-- running of the LCD header -- paralleled to 4 tmc2100s -- each output of the LCD header is split to 2 tmc2100s -- so I can get 24v to each Y stepper, and 2 lead screws. All working together.
