Delta with two motors per axis?
-
Hi,
would this be possible with Duet?
In Voron speak this is essentially an "AWD Delta".
Would it be possible to run 6 motors, 2 per axis, each with a closed loop stepper and a 1HCL board? I know there were (are?) some problems when running two steppers in one axis when encoders are included. Something along the lines that you can't home the machine with the encoders connected, correct? -

I think you would just home in open loop mode.

6 motors, 2 per axis
Yes I think that's been done before, though I don't recall any with closed loop motors.

I don't have experience with closeLoop steppers, but from what I gathered, it requires a powerful MCU to reach same speed levels as openLoop.
Which IMHO is funny, because the main reason why I'd use CL steppers is to increase speed.I'd like to build a Delta based on my differential belt drive. It allows us to double up the effector speed, but without running the steppers at twice the revs.
At the same time, I can choose any reduction ratio when I need higher precision.
All that would run on a Duet2 with driver-expansion
