Question about voltage and stepper motor
-
HI,
him in need of a few answer , as i tweak upgrade my printer build , ive been thinking of rewiring things with din rail and all for clean setup , at this point it wouldnt be a bad things , currently using 24v for bed and hot end , but everything else is on 12 volt , now i have a duet 3 6hc v1.0 that support 12-48v correct ? i do have a 3HC v1.0 expansion board as well so maximun 32 volts there . what would be the effect of stepping up from 12v to 24-30v ? would i still be able to use same stepper motor than currently ?
it mean i could use 48v on main board for xyz axis and use lower voltage like 24v on extruder on the 3hc expansion board correct ?
core XY , AWD ,
this is what him rocking : https://forum.duet3d.com/topic/17999/the-mean-machine?_=1673928894070 -
You can use the EMF calculator with your motor specs to see what more voltage would get you.

@Dad003, I believe you will find that v1.0 of the 6hc board is only rated to 32V. V1.03, the latest version, is good to 48V
-
@jens55 o yea you are correct i was looking at the wrong version , so max 32volt , i would definitively gain to pump it from 12 to higher

@Phaedrux after looking at that page and inputting the spec of my stepper 12v is really handicapping my printer . really think i will upgrade to 24v psu , been seeing some din rail model that can be adjusted up to 28v . i could actually reach the speed ive dream off with 24-28v .

@Dad003 most 24V PSUs can be turned up to about 28V.
Be careful if you also run the bed heater from 28V because the power it draws will increase by a factor of (28/24) squared which has implications for the PSU rated output.

@dc42 heat bed will have it own power supply .

Well this morning I ordered a meanwell 600 watt 27v that can be adjusted to 30v , with this I'll be able to achieve the speed I have in mind.
Thank you for the answer learned a thing or 2 with that emf calculator !

Let us know how it turns out.
