Solved How do I wire 5Vext on a 6xd?
-
If you are going to use an external 5V supply to the board, you must remove that jumper labeled INT 5V EN. You will wire the external 5V supply to the board using the EXT 5V IN pins found just to the left of the VIN Power In. Is this the 0.1 or 1.0 board?
As to why those pins for the other two options are missing, I have no clue. I use the 6HC, and those same 2 sets of pins on mine were never installed either.

@tmitch205 Thanks. It's the 1.0 board. Phew, I was about to solder in some posts when I reread the doc again.
-
@markz the other pins aren't soldered in by default now.

Next Question: in the duet2 I had two 5V fan outputs I was using to control 5VDC relays. It looks like that's no longer an option in the 6XD. What should I use to control two 5V (100mA) relays? I'm thinking of just swapping them out for 24VDC relays - which is my Vin but would rather not.
If I do swap to 24V volt relays (which would be 20mA) should I use the high power outputs ? It's not a printer, there are no heaters.

@rushmere3d not soldering in pins is a serious feature since I was planning to jumper the middle one cuz I read the doc wrong.
-
@markz the VFD output can be used for one as that's 5v. Are you just using them for ON/OFF or PWM control?
-
@jay_s_uk Just on/off.
I've already ordered 2 24V relays but still would rather not swap them in if there's another 5V output I could use. Thank you.
-
@markz you may be able to use an IO out. Otherwise take 5v from elsewhere on the board and use that with a fan output
-
@jay_s_uk If I read the schematic right the output is just a mosfet load/ground so it looks like I could use 2 pins of (+5V_int , fan-io output) to drive the relay?
-
@markz yes, it just switches on ground. So 5v from somewhere to the switch output on the fan
-
@jay_s_uk Thanks a bunch.

@jay_s_uk This sounds strange but looking at the circuit can't I just run 5V to the V_OUT_LC_2 post and not use a jumper to either usual voltage? As far as I can tell it's a small self-contained run to out6,7,8 which works for me.
-
@markz that should also work

Yes it's designed to allow you to supply a different voltage to the centre post of the 3-pin voltage selector block.
