Boot from USB
-
After yet another corrupt memorycard, I was wondering if it would be possible to boot the Duet 3 6HC from the USB port.
-
@yveske no, its not possible.
What SD cards are you using? I've not managed to corrupt a card yet.
Also, what firmware are you running? -
@yveske One of the advantages to go the "SBC"-route is the use of an eMMC memory card on the RasPi... faster and more reliable.
eMMC cards are also available as plugin-board from hardkernel, but that would require a new Duet controller-generation and FW-adaption. -
@yveske it's not common for the SD card to become corrupted unless power is removed while the Duet is writing to SD card. If you have logging enabled, try disabling it.

Thanks all,
@jay_s_uk The SD card was a Kingston 64GB, but will go with Raspberry Pi in SBC mode.
@o_lampe The eMMC looks interesting, but I will sacrifice a USB port of the Raspberry Pi.
@dc42 Going with the SBC mode will solve this one as well.Should I wait for the official release of 3.4.2 or would RC3+ be reliable enough ?
Thanks again,
Yveske -
@yveske you really shouldn't be using a card larger than 32gb as larger isn't officially support by FAT32

No, it fits in the SD-card slot, but it sticks out and could need a different housing or some protection.

USB3 and a SSD with a pi is a good option
-
@o_lampe I guess you've missed the but in my answer, a USB stick will be used.
