Best way to revert to old heater tuning?
-
So I’m going to be running a thermal test soon, and the old heater tuning method was fantastic to characterize the heater performance - Essentially max heater value, dead time, and cooling time.
What’s the best way to use it again? I think I’ll probably need to revert the firmware, correct?
-
Correct, you'd need to revert. The easiest way to do that would depend on if you're running in standalone or SBC mode. For standalone you can upload the complete firmware zip file for the version you want. For SBC you would need to get a little fancier.

@tlas you could also use the new heater tuning method and calculate the old style parameters from them.

@dc42
Thanks - do you happen to have a formula to go between the two? (Or point me at some documentation?) -
@tlas I can't verify this right now but I think they are related as follows:
Old gain = 100 * R/K
Old cooling time constant = 100/K
Dead time is the sameThe relationship isn't exact because the new model allows for nonlinear cooling.
