Time line for Duet 3 6XD

@ctilley79 No idea. You now know about as much as most of us do
-
@ctilley79 if it's a 6 times 1XD board, then there is no stepper driver on board, but the board generated PUL/DIR/EN signals, and you need external drivers and steppers. This allows high current solutions (eg DM860) or servo usage (eg iHSV).
-
@tecno We have prototypes under production. depending on how those go and how many changes we need to make we will then move it into production. Minimum of a couple of months from now before they are in production.
Initial documentation is here:
https://docs.duet3d.com/en/Duet3D_hardware/Duet_3_family/Duet_3_Mainboard_6XD_Hardware_OverviewNote there are a few things still to add.

@t3p3tony Thank you for changing to usb C
-
@t3p3tony I have an existing CNC I'd love to swap out my Duet2 for the 6XD. Let us know when we can preorder : )
I do wish there was a nice dual-core processor you could use. RRF seems tailor-made for placing some of the motion into a core. Still, I'll take the bump to 300.
-
@markz the motion computation has got a lot more complicated since we introduced input shaping and it now uses floating point arithmetic. So moving it into a core wouldn't be very practical.
The 300MHz processor is way faster than external drivers need, because external drivers can't handle step rates as high as the Trinamic drivers on other Duets.

This is very interesting. I am looking at building a router at some stage. Any chance of adding an analog output that is a bit more friendly for vsd’s like 4-20mA or 0-10v?
-
@dc42 Fair enough. Thanks. I am looking forward to the board.

Super simple to convert PWM to either of those.

For controlling a VSD, an opto isolated interface is strongly recommended. That's most easily done using a PWM-to-voltage converter. See https://docs.duet3d.com/en/User_manual/Machine_configuration/Configuration_CNC#connecting-a-spindle.

FYI, from @dc42 on 7/26/22:
The first production 6XD boards are being shipped to resellers this week.
