IR Sensor Efficacy with Powder Coated PEI Surface
-
Hi all, I did some searching through the forums looking for the kind of results people might be getting with a powder coated PEI surface (https://fulament.com/collections/fula-flex-2-0/products/fula-flex-2-0) compared to smooth PEI and didn't find much. Anybody have using that kind of surface with this sensor? I'm going to be switching from a BL-Touch soon due to the form factor and I'm trying to see if I'll be needing to order some Build - Tak along with it. I know that PEI is very transparent to IR, but was wondering if the powdercoating application changes things.
Thanks!

@gwatson90 do you know how thick the coating is? If it's very thin then the transparency is less likely to cause the IR sensor a problem.
-
@dc42 The thickness of the powder coated side is ~0.2mm (0.3mm on the smooth side). Would the texture of the coating effect the reading from the probe?
-
@gwatson90 the texture might cause some variability in the reading.
-
@dc42 I will give it a try in the next couple of weeks and follow-up. Thank you!

Hello @gwatson90, It's been a while since the last post. I've been looking for the same information lately, as I was thinking of using the same senor on a PEI textured surface. How did your experimentation go using the IR sensor and the textured PEI surface, does it work ?
Or anyone that has used the DC42 IR probe on Textured PEi surfaces with success or had experience trying it?
Greetings to all!
