Warning: motor phase B may be disconnected
-
I get this warning when my machine is working. It just started and I have no idea why.
Warning: motor phase B may be disconnected reported by driver(s) 3

When RRF reports just one phase may be disconnected, it's usually caused by a bad crimp connection in the motor cable connected to that driver.

@dc42 Okay, so this was the latest error I got today
M0 H1
Warning: motor phase B may be disconnected reported by driver(s) 3Which motor should I consider suspect?
-
@hbrownell driver 3 and in a standard setup that's the extruder, but check your M584 to see where it's mapped to
-
Here's some detail on connecting motors.
Chances are it's a bad crimp.
-
@phaedrux Bad wire confirmed. I ordered a new one, hooked it up and no more problems. Thank you!

@Phaedrux Sorry to bring this topic alive again, I guess is better to keep it like this since Im having the same problem.
Im getting this error in a random way. Printer works but if I look at the logs in the console, I can see some of these errors from time to time.
can this error be a false positive detection fro the driver or this error means with no doubt at all that there is an error either on the crimp or the cable (or the motor wich it would be really difficult if the motor is a good quality one, steppers from my experience are really no prone to fail)?
Thanks in advance

@tinchus if you get warnings for both phase A and phase B then they may be false positives, especially if they only occur at certain speeds. If it's only one phase then there is almost certainly a problem, usually a bad connection.
-
@dc42 yes. Im getting both warnings: A nad phase B. But not exactly at equal amounts. In logs I can see 2 warnings for phase B, and 1 for phase A at the same time. Other times in logs the amounts of B and A are exactly the same.
And this happens at hight speeds -
if you run a direct extruder or a kinematic setup where one stepper is moved around (lokemthe flying X setup on an ender 5) and you get this on high speed moves, it might be showing when you pull the wires around.

I think I am exactly in this case right now: the printer works fine, but it reports error on the Z axis for all three motors :
Warning: motor phase A may be disconnected reported by driver(s) 5 6 7
Warning: motor phase B may be disconnected reported by driver(s) 5 6 7Is there a way to fix it that you would be aware of?
Thanks !

@MrDui please start a new thread rather than replying to one thats 2 years old

@jay_s_uk This thread is the first one we find on Google when doing a search for this issue, it's better for everyone if the information stays in one place no matter when it came from.
I'd really like an answer to this problem if you don't mind -

No, it's not. This thread is marked as solved, and is from two years ago. You have 3 motors, different firmware and possibly different hardware. Please start a new thread. To make it easier, I'm locking this thread.
When you do start a new thread, please supply some useful information, as mentioned in the first post here: https://forum.duet3d.com/topic/5909/guide-for-posting-requests-for-help
