Filament monitor restrictions

Are there any plans to remove the filament monitor restriction, that it has to be connected to the same board the extruder stepper is connected to?
I'm using tool boards on my printers, would like to place the filament monitor outside the chamber and don't want to add new cables running to the tool head.

@martinnyhc it's on my list to remove that restriction for simple filament present/absent sensors, but it probably won't happen in RRF 3.4.
