Attaching 5V device
-
Hello! So to enhance my printer a bit plan to attach a RasPi Zero via the Duex5.
For now I have arranged that using the AlwaysOn Pins and a stepdown, however this is a unfulfilling solution. So this is what I plan to do:
Can I attach the RasPi here as well? I am bypassing the current/voltage protection of the raspberry (integrated in the USB) for space concerns I do not want to have voltage spikes in the RasPi.
On top, the Raspi draws apprx 1A+ at 5V. Is there a problem with drawing that much from the Duex?
Any ideas?

Using an external 5V supply is necessary if the total 5V power required to run the connected servos, fans and LEDS is greater than 1A.

So to be completely sure here: I attach the device where the green arrows are and the extra power supply for 1A+ where the orange arrow is?

If the RPi really does draw only 1A, and you don't have a PanelDue powered from your Duet, then it's OK to power the RPi from the Duet. But I suggest you get 5V and ground from the PanelDue connector on the Duet, not the GPIO connector on the DueX, so that the current isn't coming through the ribbon cable that connects the Duet and DueX.
Beware of plugging devices into the USB ports of the Pi, because that will increase the current draw.
The Duet 3 has a higher current rating on the +5V supply so that it can more easily power a Pi.

The RPi Zero runs a camera, so it might actually draw a little more.
So you suggest attaching it to the paneldue 5V pin right beside the zprobe plug? Or to the panel due pins that run next to the expansion (5x2x2)? -

Yes, provided that the current draw won't significantly exceed about 1A.

I power my RaspiZeroW cam via a USB charging port powered directly by the PSU.

So, I suppose I also need activate the PanelDue somehow?
I attached my VoltMeter at the two different paneldue output, but unfortunately no voltage.
Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to set a jumper?

How are you connecting the PanelDue? There isn't anything special to do other than plug it in.

dc42 said I can simply plug the RasPi into the output of the paneldue, which is a 4-pin plug where I populated the 5V pin on the far right as well as the ground left of it. Before plugging the Raspberry into that I checked the voltage and there is nothing....

You should get 5V between the pins as shown here https://d17kynu4zpq5hy.cloudfront.net/igi/duet3d/4k56ZjaaAHrTJI6Z.huge. The pins are on the far right or the far left depending on which way up you have the Duet.
