Unfortunately I will be down for several days while I move in to a new house (with a big shop😀 ) but will next try reducing the MS to 1/4 or even whole steps and see the effect. I am running very high steps/mm but very slow speeds. Originally 3200 steps/mm and 600 mm/m (with 1 mm lead ball screws). Currently at 1600 steps/mm. The low lead ball screws where more a function of availability. 2 mm lead would have been the first choice considering I was after a full step resolution of .015 mm

@dc42 Thanks guys for the quick reply. So am I correct to understand that the drivers can still boast to 2.8A despite the current limits?

@wilriker I've not heard this 80% rule in relation to CNC use. I'm going to keep the heat sinks on in any case as well - but the thing that's made the biggest difference to over-heating is setting the motor current idle factor of 50%.

I don't think I'll mess about with recompiling the firmware for now - as it seems to be working but is there any literature you recommend reading about how that works. I'm just curious.

If your fixed plate is conductive why the movable plate? Afaik you only need a movable conductive plate of known thickness if you want to zero your tool against a non-conductive stock?

Exactly. CNC router that cuts wood and plastic. Want to do two plate tool change(s).

I changed the G10 to G92 in the homing macros, and had another look at my soft lim'ts in the config file, and I seemed to have got everything working. G53 and G54 are the same locations.

I'm currently getting my 3040 chinesium CNC router up and running on a Duet (quite unexpectedly!), and all I can say is just, wow. It runs faster, smooter, and easier compared to the Gecko G540 with linux cnc. I guess the pros so far, far outweigh the cons with respect to g-code support from LinuxCNC, Duet has them beat on all other areas, and as long as the Fusion post processor can generate code that works with the RepRap firmware and the Duet board can deliver the current you need then its happy days.

I had added this to the work list for RepRapFirmware 3.

Oh yeah, the Hiwin rails that are "all the rage" are definitively the lowest end of the scale. (With the chinese clones not being on the scale at all).

However with the minimal forces involved with 3d printing they're a good alternative for smooth yet rigid linear motion without having your credit card curl up in a fetal position crying in the shower:P

If you trawl eBay you can find better brand rails used and they should have ample life left in a 3d print application, but its more often than not much much bigger rails.

That's what I was looking for, thanks for confirming that pendant works. Since you are experienced CNC machinist, have you got any pendant that is worth recommending? I wan't to avoid getting product with bad documentation and poor user base.

Please can you try firmware 2.02RC3 and see if this issue is resolved. There have been fixes to handling workplace coordinate offsets between RC2 and RC3.

fusion post proc probably does either g28 or g54 g92 z0 at the start which can cause issues if your machine isn't set up right.

I'm on the same wavelength with Danal on this one! Unless specifically instructed through M120/M121, nothing should be saved/restored by default for maximum flexibility.

Of course, workplace related settings should be included in the push/pop support as some of the workplace settings might be temporarily changed for the needs of the macro.
