Hi all,
I've found out I need to consistently set an offset of 0.05 mm through babystepping to avoid some first layer issues. In my config, I have
G31 P100 X0 Y0 Z-0.1
In order to make that change permanent, I would need to change the value to Z-0.05 - correct?
(Side question - I'm using a smart effector, is this change likely to cause any issues?)

@oliof Interesting - for whatever reason I had the Duet3 mini as "fewer channels than Duet2" in my head. Thanks for clearing this up.

Maybe it's just me, but that's a dangerous statement, unless you're also planning to drop the price of the Duet3 series components significantly. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with my two Duet2s (Duets 2?) - but from what I can see, Duet has always been at the upper end of the price range anyway. The Duet3 ecosystem is very expensive to buy into. I can only speak for myself, but I would not have invested that much money (and won't for the forseeable future).

@fcwilt The conversion is done, there is no point in arguing about the fans any more (which I believe should have been made clear by my post). 12V fans would have been possible, but I would have had to add another voltage converter for all fans to my system.
I have converted my printer to an All-Noctua model to combat noise. Since I haven't been able to source small 12V fans, let alone 24V, I've had to convert my hotend fans to 5V, which is mostly working as intended. The only slight problem is that the illumination LEDs no longer work. I assume that the in-series resistors are too high in value even with the 12V jumper on, right? I'm thinking of replacing one of the resistors - would that be an "official mod", and which value should I use?

@nobody1982 the drivers only report 3 temperatures. cool (0 degrees), hot (100 degrees) and very hot (130 degrees). Nothing can be done.
@dc42 May I suggest adding this bit of information to the M308 Gcode dictionary page? I was about to post a bug report when I accidentally found out about this limitation...
I'm trying to collect data from an accelerometer I connected via SPI to my Duet 2 Wifi. I've registered the accelerometer as described in the documentation, and as far as I can tell, it is recognized. However, when I try to capture some data using the procedure described in the documentation, I get unusable results. Some CSV files only contain
Sample,X,Y,Z
Failed to collect data from accelerometer
Others contain a few (max. 124 so far) samples, then the same error message. It appears that it's usually the first measurement taken after powering on the printer that contains some samples, the ones taken after that are completely blank.
I've already checked the physical connections and don't believe there's an issue with them. What would be the next steps to troubleshoot this?

I have updated my (genuine) Duet 2 Wifi from firmware version 3.2 to 3.3 by uploading the file Duet2and3Firmware-3.3.zip using DWC and confirming the dialog prompt. After the update, I could hear the printer re-starting and going through its homing cycle, but the web interface did not come back. M115 issued through a PanelDue showed the firmware version correctly as 3.3, so the update appeared to have succeeded. M552 showed "WiFi module is being started", even after more than 10 minutes of run time. The Wifi module LED was showing a permanent blue. Cycling the Wifi module state with M552 S-1 followed by M552 S1 did not help.
M587 should show the network list, but it didn't. Instead, I got the message "Failed to retrieve network list: another SPI transfer is pending". I have recently connected an accelerometer to my printer and connected it as described in the documentation, but I have not yet configured the firmware to use it. However, physically disconnecting the accelerometer did not resolve the issue either.
I then tried to reapply the Wifi firmware update using M997 S1, which gave me the error message "Error: M997: file 0:/firmware/DuetWifiServer.bin not found". Examining the SD card folder structure on my PC, I could see all of the firmware files still located in /sys/. Apparently, the file relocations mentioned in the release notes have not been performed automatically - the folder was not even created.
I then moved the firmware over to the new folder manually and reapplied the Wifi firmware update using M997 S1. This finally resolved the problem.
I don't know whether there is some bug in the update procedure or just a fluke - but maybe this will help somebody who ran into the same issue.

Hi all,
I'm using the Haydn Huntley arms on a smart effector with the mounting system bought via the Duet3D store several years ago. Recently I've noticed something bad has apparently happened. A ring of black gunk appeared on the chrome balls, and when I removed and cleaned the joints, I could see that somehow the chrome (?) plating of the balls has been abraded to a significant portion.
Long story short - I need new replacements (2x sets of 6 https://www.duet3d.com/DuetAddons/BallStudEnds), but I have a hard time finding a reseller in Europe, if possible Germany. Does anyone know of a reseller that has these items in stock?
(Also - will I have to replace the rods as well? I hope not....)

I usually clean the print bed once every 5 prints or so. I just cleaned and de-greased it again, with very little effect.
Slowly making progress... First I removed/reduced some extrusion multipliers and perimeter/infill overlaps - that did help to reduce the issue a bit, but not remove it entirely. Same with increasing the first layer height. At this point, the central "ridge" that started right at the beginning was gone, but the "sand dunes" across the length of the piece with the weird extrusion patterns underneath (image number 4 above) were even more pronounced.
Temporarily disabling the mesh calibration did NOT help. I doubt at the moment that the mesh calibration has got something to do with it.
With an initial layer height of 0.36, I've had to babystep up an additional 0.15 mm to have any noticeable effect on the "sand dunes". Only at 0.36+0.2 mm did the pattern disappear entirely, but then I ran into the problem that the perimeters and infill disconnected again.
At this point, I was wondering why the second layer always worked so much better than the first one. I still had a a speed reduction for the first layer in my profile; since I do not have any model adhesion issues I know of, I removed that and was able to get an improved, but not perfect result with "only" +0.1 mm babystepping.
At the moment I can't really see what's happening during the print - I'll have to see whether I can convince the slicer to produce the infill back to front or rotate the entire g-code somehow.
Different part, much simpler geometry. This time I remembered to take some pictures of the first layer.
In the front it looks like there's some kind of ridge forming; behind that, there are something that looks like waves... Maybe overextrusion that's being pushed around back and forth on the hot bead like kneading dough... Don't know.
The second layer is completely smooth (except where that ridge in the middle pushes through a bit). This print will take another hour - I'm curious to see how what I'm seeing on the inside translates to the outside.
To be sure, I re-ran the calibration...

it looks like you have a very slight ripple.
That might be the case (though I can't detect any noticeable backlash) - however, I don't quite understand how that might change the extrusion results essentially doing straight lines right next to each others.
