I have a Rostock V2 Max with the recent addition of an E3D v6 hot end, Duet3d Smart effector and the Duet 3 Mini 5+ wifi controller.
I'm doing something wrong, but I don't know what it is. When I start a test print the nozzle is too far above the bed, lowering the nozzle manually with Z baby stepping starts to help at about -0.85mm. But then the next few layers all seem to be at the same Z height. It takes about 3-4 layers before I see the part height getting above the first layer and it looks like the nozzle is just plowing through the existing material. I also have to run at about 50% speed and 180% extrusion. I think I can fix the speed and extrusion issues with the slicer and maybe cleaning the extruder drive gears since I can hear it slipping occasionally.
I arrived at my Z trigger height of -0.7 by repeatedly running the G30 S-1 command. It says to repeat to check for consistency but doesn't give a guide as to what to expect. My numbers were from -0.658 to -0.731.
The next issue is with the smart effector. I setup a routine to probe 9 points towards the outer edge, then 6 more on an inner circle, then one in the center. With the default settings from RepRap firmware configuration tool it would run fine from the command line, but fail on the inner circle if I ran it at the beginning of my print (Added G31 to the part file). It would tell me that the z probe was already triggered and the light on the smart effector was staying on solid, but only on the inner circle and the center point. The outer circle runs without error. I then discovered that the setup guide for the SE recommends different settings than the configuration tool. I changed the sensitivity to 100 and the probe type to 8 and now it stays triggered as long as the bed heat is on! I'm using an PC power supply and its not doing well keeping the voltage from sagging when the bed heater is on.
Please let me know if you have any ideas or need more information.
Thanks!
