@t3p3tony Thanks Tony, I think I fried more than the U3 chip when I made a mistake, I'm going to move up to fan2 and reconfigure, if that doesn't work, I'll buy a duet3 5+ mini and install that.
This board will then become a hobby board.

Hi guys, sorry to bother again, after fun printing for a few months, extruder started clogging horribly.
Turns out Fan1 (set to extruder as per instructions) is not working correctly anymore.
Fan is always on and turning slow instead of from 50C and up.
Fan does not power up to speed anymore either.
Without load I measure 20.7v immediately after turning on, but judging from slow fan speed upon load the voltage drop is significant, definitely not 20.7v. I tried different fans, same result.
What's probably busted? Component TR9 right under Fan1?
How can I troubleshoot?
Thanks!
@arhi I understand completely
BTT quality is a nightmare, don't ask me how I know. I wish I had started with RepRap and Duet board two years ago when I picked up the hobby, but then again, I've gotten an extensive education on what doesn't work and a bigger appreciation for what does.
@arhi check if microstepping is 16, dipswitch 4 on, 123 off => press calibrate, make sure the carriage is in the middle of the axis b/c it will calibrate in both directions.
then make sure to press reset and the screen really resets, otherwise it won't work
then dip 4 off, 1 and 2 stay off and dip 3 on, that's it
I wouldn't recommend it without the OLED screen
there is one more thing which may affect you, in Marlin I had to change minimum_stepper_pulse to 3 instead of 2 and maximum_stepper_rate to 150000 from 250000
@adamfilip the magnet placing is very sensitive, with my previous Creality and SKR boards I just could not get the distance to work right on the y-axis on my ender 5+ b/c it is a dual shaft stepper.
The x-axis always worked fine (OEM complete motor with board and screen already installed out of the box), absolute delight not to have layer shifts anymore, for example PETG blob blocking the carriage and ruining the whole print.
Guys, I replaced the chip and it's WORKING!
You're the greatest, no more chinese crap boards for me.
My next project is going to be a Duet board as well.
Thank you
@droftarts Thank you!
You guys sure got your act together....respect
@masso said in Starting off with a bang:
Must be a female chip
No one?
Ok,
B/c a few volts and it blows it's top....
@dc42 said in Starting off with a bang:
@masso, we may be able to get your board repaired. Is there any sign of damage to U3, the small square chip? Which country are you in?
I shouldnāt be surprised, you guys probably designed and built this board, the U3 chip definitely blew itās top. Iāve successfully soldered way smaller than that, should be no problem, may the flux be with youā¦.
Iāll check the forum for chip type and look where I can source one. If thatās all (hopefully) all will be ok and the bang will end up to be āsisserā as we say in Holland
Thank you for your swift reply and help
To be continuedā¦
@weed2all hope so, Iāll put it under the microscope tomorrow and measure out what components I can understand.
@dc42 Iām in Holland.
Iāll inspect the board tomorrow with a fresh pair of eyes.
I can work on the board myself, got the tools for it, but only basic electronics knowledge.
Iām a mechanical guy, but I do some electronics repair work for my car projects where possible (basic electronics microscope, rework station and such).
Thx for the pointers!
So happy with the duet 2 WiFi, chugging along this week, rebuilt and rewired my Ender 5 plus, getting to know the firmware, making macroās, got everything working. What an improvement over Marlin big tree tech headaches. Aaand just before I wanted to close the control box, the BLTouch wires came loose from the expansion port which I have individual crimped DuPont connectors on. Put them back quickly, turned the board back on and BANGā¦ā¦ā¦. put the ground and power pins in reverse orderā¦..
Yup, ofcourseā¦.only blue led on, no more WiFi led flashing. Yippeeā¦
Call myself Duet Dumbass from now on
Iām ordering another one tomorrow,ā¦Dumbass.
