The most likely source for someone not professionally involved in electronics is an Ethernet cable. Patch cables (Normal cables as sold with plugs) are supposed to be stranded wire, though a lot of cheap ones use singe core.

The ones usually supplied free with routers etc., would probably be the proper stuff.

If you look at the end of a plug with a magnifying glass, you should be able to tell if it's stranded or single core; this one is definitely stranded:

Another option is audio cable; eg. something like a headphone extension cable, which should have two similar cores and a ground /screen at minimum. "Pound shops" and similar in the UK sell those very cheaply.

With the cost of a Duet 2 Maestro being about the same as a Duet 3 3HC expansion, I'd go that route for printer and laser instead of shoehorning it all into a Duet 3. And pick Duet 2 Wifi or Duet 3 6HC for the CNC depending on current needs.

But each to his own I guess. (The driverlesss Duet 3 is mainly intended to be used with external stepper drivers to accomodate servos with step/dir interfaces, but ofc the interwebs always finds interesting use cases)

Not that it would matter to OP as you're replacing the board anyways, but could the board be reworked by the assembly house? Kapton tape, hand written tag, residue might be flux and not signs of overload?

It's possible, but L4 is an unlikely component to need to be reworked.
