Need some delta tips
-
Hi Everyone,
I am new to delta printers, but not 3d printers. I have an anycubic kossel linear plus that I bought and upgraded the mainboard to the duetwifi and the effector to the smart effector (also a paneldue 5" but the touchpanel isn't working so sending that back). Everything seems to be configured properly but I am having and issue keeping the effector true to the bed. I ran auto calibration hoping that would magically fix it for me but it says I have a deviation of 1.825. The effector is not tilting as it is moving based on the spirit level, but I noticed when I move just the X or Y etc. the head moves up and down in a dome shape which the highest point in the center and the far edges colliding the tip with the bed. Now I know this seems to be a basic delta calibration as there is a bunch of various resources, but none break it down (or at least none I have found) in a way for someone new to deltas. I never adjusted the delta radius nor have a clue how to adjust the delta offsets.
Can someone please help by pointing our youtube videos, articles, etc. that helped you get your printer fully calibrated? Want to learn, just having a hard time figuring out where to start.
Thanks!

please post your config.g and your Bed.g files also what length are your mag ball arms (The number on the sticker at one end)

Hi with the smart effector autocalibration should adjust for the doming effect you describe.
Check the documentation here:
https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/ConfiguringRepRapFirmwareDeltaPrinter#Section_Setting_up_the_auto_calibration_fileTo make sure you have autocalibration setup correctly.

The length of the arms is 288.18 for 2 pairs and 288.19 for the third pair.

The bed.g came directly from the Reprap configurator.

T3P3Tony that link is brilliant. I changed the S3 in the last G30 command to s7 and now my deviation is 0.027.

I see some issues with those files. In config.g you have:
M558 P5 R0.4 H10 F300 T2400 ; Set Z probe type to effector and the dive height + speeds
G31 P100 X11 Y0 Z-0.1 ; Set Z probe trigger value, offset and trigger heightIn the M558 command, F300 is too low, see the Smart Effector instructions on the wiki.
In the G31 command, X11 should be changed to X0 because there is no offset between the Z probe and the nozzle.
But the main problem is that you are using only 3-factor auto calibration, because you have S3 on the final G30 command in bed.g. Use S6 or S8. We don't advise using S7 or S9 in most cases.

Ok, so the only remaining issues (other than calibration steps/mm) is that the z position is off. The gcode file tells it to start printing at 0.09z position but that pretty much puts the nozzle perfectly on the bed. I ran autocalibration with just the bed hot. Should I be running autocalibration with both the nozzel and bed hot? I do this for my other printers, but I was thinking I didn't want filament drip while using the nozzle to probe.
-
It's a good idea to run auto calibration with the nozzle hot enough to melt any filament that may otherwise stick to the bottom of it. If your print bed can't take a lot of heat (e.g. PEI) then you may want to probe a little below normal printing temperature. The bed should be at operating temperature, in case it changes shape when hot.
After turning the printer on and before printing, I run a macro that heats the bed to operating temperature and the nozzle to 190C. Then I home and run auto calibration; then I print without homing again. You can do all this in the slicer start GCode if you wish.
You can adjust the Z height by adjusting the Z parameter in the G31 command. If you make it more negative then the nozzle will start higher when printing. But correct the F parameter in the M558 command first, because that will affect the trigger height.

Ok perfect. Thank you so much for the advice. I will try that out and let you know!

Just tested it and it is dead on accurate now. I also run the G32 command as part of my start up script. Thanks again for the help.

I noticed the reprap configurator gives these values for the smart effector, I had issues with mine not probing properly (basically it just slowly pressed the nozzle into the bed) until I read the wiki and adjusted the dive speeds.
