Need a decent power supply
-
i have a new 400X400 heated bed (400*400mm 24v 350w 100k thermistor & 3M adhesive)
and i have just tested it with a
24v WEHO S-400-24 power supply
and the power supply was getting quite hot very quicklyand i was wondering has anyone got any ideas where i can get a power supply to power it
for when the printer is built i do have quite a large MOSFET but will still need a good supply

Are you running this supply just for the bed? For a bed this big (300x300) I went for an AC powered bed. It reaches 70C in about 2m.

I'm using the largest one of these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AC-110V-220V-TO-DC-5V-12V-24V-Switch-Power-Supply-Driver-Adapter-LED-Strip-Light/152134115704?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=451331021396&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 with the fan replaced by a noctua 60mm job. Completely silent and running cool so far.

I'm running the Meanwell 24V below one on a large-ish delta. 600x620 print, about 1500 tall overall. Fan in the PS cycles on for about 1 or 2 minutes out of 10 or 15. Running all the printer, but NOT the bed.

Seems to be an excellent power supply. Maybe available cheaper via other routes… it was fast/easy for me, on Amazon.

yes I will be using an pc atx power supply for the controller and a 400W separate for the bed.
i think the idea of a bigger fan would be good -
I use a Meanwell UHP 350. They are fan-less and completely silent.I believe you can get them up to 500W as well.

i think the idea of a bigger fan would be goodAny reason you plan on using a 12V supply for the rest? Generally we recommend using 24 V for the stepper drivers all else being equal.

Another vote for 24V. It has all kinds of nice effects on just about everything… but particularly the motors.

Why all the hassle of wiring up 2 PSUs?
I am using a meanwell 500W 24V PSU (I have a 320W bed): https://www.meanwell-web.com/nl-nl/RSP–500--24
Bought it for around 90€ and is near silent (Fan kicks in once in while) -
Look for omron 24v 500w psu. Omron is good brand

on my 1st system i went 12 volt and being a pc gamer went with a high end atx power supply for the board and 120 AC for the 300 x 300 mm 750 watt bed. heatsup in about a minute if i dont throttle it lol so more then enough power. weather AC or DC, getting the load off the main board is HUGE! My 2nd machine is a tevo tornado and 24 v. i was pleasantly surprised by performance of fairly cheap 8 bit board and components running at 24 v again huge performance advantages here. I wish someone made a 24v gaming rated power supply, that would be an epic place to start with powering any machine. As we have seen with stepper smoother and the like, good CLEAN power can't be beat!

I can recommend mean well supplies. They are low end industrial supplies but are good quality, much better than no-name chinese supplies you can get from ebay etc.. I use mean well in lots of equipment and have had very few failures in thousands of hours of run time.

I'm fond of the MeanWell supplies also. I'm fairly sure that the majority of the Chinese supplies that come with the printer kits are knock off copies of Meanwell supplies, just done on the extremely low quality end of the spectrum.
