Duet 3 Roto Toolboard peak current limit on high current output
-
According to the docs the current limit on the high current output of the Revo toolboard is 3.4A (80W @ 24V).
While this is totally fine for the intended use of the Roto tool board with the E3D Revo system (max 60W), most high flow hotends are well above 80W or even around 115W.
Since the full output current is only drawn during the first few seconds during heatup, I was wondering if the revo toolboard might be capable of handling currents higher than 80W for a short amount of time without damaging the high current mosfet?I found this table for the phaetus rapido @24V. It illustrates the drop in current at different temperatures quite well:

@MaxGyver the mosfet should handle that easily, so should the connector. The other limiting factor is the width of the traces on the board. If the high current is only for a few seconds then I think it should be OK.

Thank you very much for your feedback! Just to be on the side of caution. The Roto Toolboard should be ok with the 115W nominal power of the pheatus rapido?
-
@MaxGyver yes I think so, on the basis that the hot end is PTC so the power draw will drop to 80W or lower after a short while. You will need to ensure that the crimp connections that you make to the Microfit connector are good, and I suggest you check for signs of the tool board overheating from time to time.
