Canbus failure after attempting to update firmware on LC1
-
@Herve_Smith
Pressing both buttons will cause a factory reset (CAN address set back to default 121 address), and for the bootloader to request a firmware update.

@Herve_Smith downgrade back to 3.4.5 and try again?

@Herve_Smith so you downgraded the mainboard to 3.4.5 and all the other boards and used the 2 button method?

@Herve_Smith best to upload the duet2and3 zip file so all the correct firmware files are in the correct place, then give it another go, i would also make sure the toolboard is the only CAN board attached

@Herve_Smith if you hold both buttons on the tool board down while powering it up, it will request new firmware from the main board, and load whatever version of Duet3Firmware_Tool1LC.bin is in the /firmware folder on the SD card. If it fails for any reason then the red LED will flash an error code. See https://docs.duet3d.com/en/User_manual/Machine_configuration/CAN_connection#factory-resetting-a-tool-or-expansion-board.

@jay_s_uk thanks, I've updated it.

@Herve_Smith do you know what version bootloader the tool board has?
If the red Status LED doesn't light up at all after power up, that usually means that the crystal oscillator has failed to start up, which happens sometimes on boards that have the original bootloader installed. If you leave the board powered up, it may eventually start up; and if it does and you can communicate with it from the main board, you should immediately update the bootloader to version 2.4 to avoid this issue.
If it doesn't start flashing the Status LED after a few hours, please email warranty@duet3d.com and include a link to this thread.

@Herve_Smith thanks, please email our warranty address.

@dc42 can the bootloader be updated when the board is in that state?
-
@jay_s_uk if the board is not talking to CAN then the bootloader can only be updated using a Atmel ICE, or another SWD debugging tool that supports the SAMC21. We don't expect our users to possess such a tool.
